Forest Park Police Lieutenant Richard E. Drane graduated from the FBI National Academy at Quantico Virginia after 12 weeks of instruction. Attendees at the ceremony included his wife Eleanor Chief Lew Good and Detective Robert Conklin.
Village Council schedules a 1 560 000 bond election for July 28 to fund new street lighting. Mayor Howard Mohr notes efforts to educate the electorate with fact sheets and town meetings. Forest Park residents may register within three days to vote, with clerk hours listed.
Park hosts a day long Independence celebration next Wednesday with sports events concerts and a 9 15 PM fireworks show. Noon games at 1 PM pool rides and races for children run through 8 30 PM followed by a donkey baseball match and a rock concert.
Forest Park faces a serious manpower shortage with 27 sworn officers for a 16 000 population. Police Chief Lew Good and Lt Crane cite FBI guidance of one officer per 450 residents and aim for 32 officers, noting overtime is used to cover gaps and training will delay replacements.
A brief note says the publication will appear on stands Thursday and be mailed Friday with wishes for a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July from the staff.
