The Operation Adoption Viet Nam committee shipped its 250th box to Forest Park's Delta Co. near the DMZ. Readers can drop off reading materials, canned goods, drink mixes, and white rice at the REVIEW office 7516 Madison or call Tony Bale at 366 9726.
Mayor Earl R. Witt proclaims July 4 1968 as a day of national observance in Forest Park. Bells will ring nationwide including church carillons and government buildings to honor liberty and independence with the pledge of allegiance and flags displayed. Local churches civic and veterans groups are urged to participate in promoting American freedom.
Forest Park readers chase best sellers as Miss Josephine Austin notes a six month streak of national hits on reserve. Titles include Christy, Our Crowd, The Naked Ape, Rosemarys Baby, Nicholas and Alexandra, The English, and The Confessions of Nat Turner, with others like Topaz and Vanished also in steady demand.
Gwendolyn Rose Penar daughter of Mr and Mrs Casimir Penar of 936 Troost was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Pestalozzi Froebel Teachers College Chicago. A Proviso East High School graduate she is a senior at the college which trains teachers for preschool and primary grades.
Village council approves annexation south of Roosevelt Road and east of the river to create an industrial park and housing lots. Mayor commends Village Attorney O'Shea. Commissioner Lambke questions ordinances while Commissioner Rizzo urges a forestry tax to fund elm disease removal and requests a November ballot. Other actions include a health report on parochial schools and permits for building 49 and 33 unit complexes.
