The United States postal service handled soldiers bonus bonds with marked efficiency. Bonds were delivered to recipients' homes in early evening and promptly receipted. Convenient stations for certification were set up, avoiding prior confusion and delays.
Tom Matthews has a remarkable faculty for getting along with people. Rev. Alvin Wagner has a fine degree of dignity and congeniality. Knox Byrne is a prince of coordinators. Erna Date could not possibly offer anyone, she is sincere and ver Dial Ralph Searrite takes business matters almost too seriously. Gladys McKinnan looks like Sinetta Stewart and Harry Eldredge reminds me of Albert Dither by his manner of speech. Edith Kinningham is one of my especial favorites. Frank Mason has remarkable ability as a writer for one who does not make his living that way. Carl Mader is making a mime for himself, as well as money with his hand matches which he writes and markets.
The jumble notes Congress adjourning as lawmakers return home, while rumors and names swirl about Roosevelt, Mussolini, and various religious and political figures. It mentions boxing bouts between Schmeling and Louis and Riggs versus Parker, plus local doubt over building permits in St Charles and political shifts in Illinois and North Dakota.
Gertrude Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank J Smith will wed Eugene Schmidt tomorrow at 4 pm in First Reformed Church with Rev F C Kalbfleisch officiating. Her sister Liza Smith will be matron of honor and Ernest Hitter will be best man.
Forest Park Post 414 The American Legion kicks off its annual fireworks sale with three stands on Jackson Boulevard Madison Street and 13th Street Hazlett Avenue. Stand 1 and 2 are run by George Bariels and Frank Stewart. Stand 3 by Maurice Enright. Stock arrives Friday and sales run Saturday through the Fourth ahead of a free Fourth of July display.
Jana Koepfle of Marengo Avenue receives the top scholarship at Providence flight school graduation exercises. Lois earns a full ride to St. Marys Woods Catholic University and previously won a Providence High School scholarship. She also serves as first vice president of the 815 Club at St Bernadines Parish.
St Peter's Evangelical Lutheran church plans its annual picnic at Altenheim Grove Madison street near the Soo Line tracks Saturday all afternoon and evening. The committee promises entertainment races games and prizes with twelve grand prizes in the evening and a parish bake sale offering treats at a reasonable price.
Prize money totaling 300 dollars went unclaimed as the announced winner Hank Night was missing at the drawing. Arval Grove of Helword is named as the potential winner but did not register or attend, leaving the funds in question.
Anne Wagner daughter of Mr and Mrs G J Wagner 1115 Circle avenue and Clarence M Peterson son of Mrs Olga Peterson Chicago were united in marriage Saturday June 13 at 4 pm at the bride’s home The couple are now on a wedding trip through North Wisconsin
Despite cold weather Forest Park reports successful playground openings with 500 attendees Monday morning. Supervisors oversee activities from 9 30 am including baseball hot shoes volleyball rope pumping sewing dramatic art tennis and table games for children and adults. Registration urged for weekly trips to Brookfield Zoo and local sites with plans for summer programs and a recreation project committee.
The Porest Park Presbyterian Church plans patriotic services this Sunday tied to Independence Day. A new church quartet will perform and Pastor Wallace Gade will present the sermon titled What America Was Set to Find Again. A large congregation attended last Sunday.
Readers witnessed a lively Kiwanis program featuring Provisoites with marimba and brass ensembles. Harriet Shilkavin Chet Beassett Julius Nordhelm Clyde Blathwell and others performed while Spangled Banner and chorus numbers delighted attendees.
