Currency Exchange Opens in Forest Park Bank Building

A currency exchange promoted by Merchants Division and Forest Park Chamber of Commerce will open Saturday morning in the bank building at Madison street and Hannah avenue. G DeVaugh Commons will operate the exchange with modern equipment and a bullet proof cage. Henry C. Rieck will lease space in the banking room and move his offices there. Rieck, longtime Forest Park business figure, also serves as director and vice president of the chamber and chairs the Merchants Division. The Bank Building Corporation will run the safety vaults.

WPA Workers Strike Delays Park Pool Opening

Construction at the park is suspended indefinitely due to a district wide WPA union strike affecting Cook, Dulage, Take, and Will counties except Chicago. If work cannot proceed to finish the swimming pool, opening may be delayed or canceled. pickets guard park deliveries as park officials await a Washington settlement.

Personal property schedules must be filed by June 20 or the law requires the county assessor to file an estimate with a $0 penalty. If you did not receive a mail schedule, obtain one at the Township office 750A Madison Street. Rev Marcus Wagner to Speak at Open Air Services

Rev Marcus Wagner, senior pastor of St John’s Lutheran, will be the seventh speaker at the open air services in the new park at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. He is expected to draw in the community with his message Behold now is the day of salvation. The church invites strangers to hear Christ’s life and claims, with both English and German Sunday services noted for next Sunday.

Infant Welfare Tag Day Results Pleasing and Proud

The regular monthly meeting of the directors of the Infant Welfare Society met June 7 at the home of Mrs Nic Syhauk. A very favorable report was presented on the tag day. Mrs Win Shay and Mrs ot. Pro vino township board approves bills despite petitions

At Forest Park on Monday night the Pro vino township board met in the town clerk’s office. Bills passed included 100 for Jesse Marcus for April legal services and a monthly retainer of 100. Harold Neary thistle commissioner claimed 762. The board raised its own meeting salaries from 5 to 7.50. Clerk Ehrhardt queried the clerk’s pay and Marcus noted the clerk is entitled to 4.00. Supervisor Richter’s report showed 28501.48 receipts and 1078.20 disbursements.

Betty J Semper Dies Last Sunday

Betty J Semper daughter of Mr and Mrs H E Semper of 1520 Elgin avenue born November 3 1928 in Oak Park Hospital. She died after an illness from age pendicitis. Opening of Local Playgrounds on June 20

Forest Park Playground and Recreation Board will officially open the summer season Monday June 20 with three playgrounds operating under supervision. North Sides Playground Garfield Betsy Ross list daily hours and activities including loops tennis hockey music art and games plus planned events. Recreation director Sara Peyton supervises a program featuring dances drama storytelling trips and community evenings. a full schedule appears next week.

Boxing Show Friday At Parichy Field Benefit Boy Scouts

Boxing show at Parichy Field drew hundreds as Eddie Necho faced Greek champion George Kautopolis in a ten minute bout ending in a disputed no decision after a fast paced night. Dizzy Dean failed to appear as scheduled, disappointing fans in Forest Park. Tonight’s sale is a charity event for Forest Park Boy Scouts with net profits to be donated to local troops. Admission is 40 cents with tickets sold before and at the event.

Minutemen Raffle Set at Forest Park Meeting

The Forest Minutemen will hold their June meeting Monday at Schwab's hall in Forest Park. The grand raffle draws a Johnson Twin Cylinder Outboard Motor as first prize, plus Pfluger reels and a True Temper rod. Forester Anton Tomasek will discuss state conservation, with focus on Chicago. Pete Reading will display prizes for the fishing contest. Meeting starts at 8 PM. beer and sandwiches will be served.
