A rally for West Suburban Youth for Christ is set for Saturday June 11 at 7345 p.m in the Downers Grove High School auditorium on Forest Avenue Downers Grove. Local organizers invite area youths to attend the event featuring informal talks and music.
The Madison Street Bible Church in Oak Park will run its daily Vacation Bible School from June 20 to July 1, 9 to 12 each day at Madison at Wisconsin. Pastor Gordon F. E. Kemble leads with assistants and department heads guiding intermediates juniors and beginners through Bible study crafts play song and activities. Enrollment starts Monday morning June 20 at 9:00 a.m.
Illinois school bus drivers must complete Red Cross first aid training before licensing for fall. About 150 drivers are enrolled in Chicago Chapter area classes in Cook DuPage and Lake counties. Oak Park class has 17 students taught by Ralph Fowler every Wednesday night.
After 21 years of service Cecil Stark of the speech and English departments will retire at the end of this school year. She directed many class plays and taught public speaking dramatics and English. A tea in her honor was held with Grace Reininga and Cleora Fancher pouring. Manley W. Immel presented a linen luncheon set. A string trio from the orchestra contributed.
Proviso Township High School will start summer sessions June 20 and run to July 29 with classes daily from 4:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Shop classes meet 7:49 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. C. C. Taggart, assistant superintendent, says subjects require 20 or more students to be offered and a semester credit may be earned in one or two subjects. Fees are 9.50 for one subject and 10 for two.
A nostalgic note from Mari-Joy Coke on goodbye to P T ELS. A seniors tea hosted by Marilyn Cooperrider drew many attendees including Dale Anderson Winnie Herr Barb DeAngles Joan Benton Maurine Loomer and others. Couples gathered at Sand-La and Delve-In events on Saturday night with names like Joe Wiegman Jim Lock Joyce Butts and Al Elftmann present.
Mrs John MacGregor president announces that board directors will assist Salvation Army Tag Day on June 14 at the Desplaines avenue elevated terminal. Each director will tag for two hours. Board met June 8 at Mrs MacGregors home to plan next year.
