E M Kirsch retires after 49 years in active service at Luther School ending this academic year. St John’s congregation plans a Sunday service to honor his faithful work with a 4:30 luncheon and a 7:30 church service led by Rev J J Boerger of Havine.
Forest Park residents are urged to donate discarded clothing to the local sewing circle run with the Fellowship Deacon at 602 Thomas. The group plans to redistribute warm clothes to the homeless worldwide and offers a phone line, Forest 3456, for prompt attention and donations.
Jack Fairchild of 238 Desplaines tried to stop a dog fight on June 2. While restraining his dog Toasty, another animal attacked him in front of his home near 238 Desplaines. He was taken to Dale Park hospital for treatment.
Reverend W Kicker starts his sixth year in the Evangelical and Reformed church ministry. Under Henrietts Murphy the church will recap past five years, with a concert Sunday afternoon June 6 featuring memorial music for elder Fred Brostmeyer. Children’s Day service June 13 and Vacation Bible School June 7 5 days for preschool and early readers with Bible themes guided by Martha Ewinger Myrtle Emetana Edna Virgili and Agnes Daehn. Free will offerings daily to cover expenses.
Report of a two car collision involving Richard Eck at 7403 Madison and A Weiland of Oak Ridge on June 2 as Eck began to move. The other vehicle was driven by Stanhouse of Hillside. additional driver names and locations appear garbled but indicate a crash at the Circle dim Randulph intersection where a light change occurred.
Harry Barnes lifelong Forest Park resident and St. Bernardine’s graduate left for Great Lakes Naval Training Station to begin navy air force service. He trained for aerial photography, plans to return to Forest Park to open a photography studio after his term, previously employed by Ebert Studios in Chicago.
Mona Schoch 1040 Tronst suffered bruised knees and a lacerated forehead May 31 after falling from a car to the pavement. She was riding with Farward Groh. as the vehicle began a left turn from Roosevelt to Desplaines, she lost balance, the door swung open, and she was thrown onto the curb.
Mel Glas of the Mel Glas Camera shop 7451 Madison reports a theft after hours on May 27. A reverie camera valued at 85 dollars disappeared from the store, with the loss discovered that evening.
Frank Dodera was unanimously elected president of the Presbyterian Sunday Evening club at its last meeting, to preside this Sunday at 6 45 PM at Forest Park Presbyterian Church. Andrew Wyzenbeek will give an illustrated lecture on Mexico and Guatemala, highlighting America's opportunities. refreshments will be provided by Charles Notwell and club members.
Walliam J. Scheidemantle, a Chicago Undergraduate architecture student, won an award from the Beaux Arts Institute of Design for A Mountain Lookout. U of Illinois Navy Pier division students earned two first mentions and 20 mentions in the national contest. The Beaux Arts judging will be held on June 26 at the Chicago campus, the first on a college campus since 1939. The winning entries will be exhibited at Navy Pier on Wednesday, October 30.
Forest Park residents contributed 128 percent of the cancer fund goal in a six week drive, surpassing the group average. The West Suburban chapter spanning twelve communities reported results led by Forest Park at 128 percent, with Oak Park River Forest at 0, Proviso Township 57, and Leyden Township 48.
This month marks the twentieth anniversary of the Forest Lions Club. Five of its eighty one members are eligible for twenty year charter chevrons to be presented to Frank Keppen Victor Lanz Thomas McQuetn Dr Al Mayer and Glen Zimmerman. Guest speaker R C Boyd executive director of Goodwill Industries spoke on Rehabilitation of handicapped People. Major Speed Chandler, two World War veterans, gave a previous address arranged by recruiting officers Sers R Corrigan and R Thompson on Marion Street Oak Park. Scheidemantle is son of William J Scheidemantle and Mrs. Scheidemantle of 7639 Manrac.
