Forest Park Eyes Bond Plan For New Street Lighting
Forest Park voters will decide July 28 on issuing 1.56 million dollars in general obligation bonds to fund a village wide street lighting program. The plan calls for 817 new lights mainly in residential areas and 71 commercial lights to be modernized, replacing an aging 1920s series circuit system that cuts off blocks of lamps when one fails.

Officer Webber helps capture Manteno escapee at CTA station
Officer George Webber aided Oak Park and River Forest officers in capturing Rafael Arellano a 23 year old escapee from Manteno Hospital on a murder charge. Arellano rode a taxi from Melrose Park and was found at Lake Marion CTA station after a dispatcher alert. He was held at Forest Park lockup awaiting Manteno authorities. Chief Lew Good praised the arrest as alert capable police work.

Water shortage threat hits 13 suburbs from Chicago pump failure
A Chicago area water shortage caused loss of pressure at a pumping station near Central Park Avenue. Seventeen suburbs faced varying impact with Cicero running dry. Pressure returned to normal by 7 45 p.m. Police used car PA systems to warn residents and urged restraint on lawn sprinkling. Commissioner Lambke thanked police and the public for cooperation.

A Study in Moods at the Park Fourth of July Events
