Forest Park will spray alleys with a 6 percent DDT solution on July 14 and 15. The program targets fly breeding sites such as garages and garbage cans. Bell Defers Expansion Amid Major Cost Cuts
The Uliasis Bell Telephone board ordered an immediate 12.4 million cut in improvement and expansion work and halted $34 million more in upcoming construction. It withheld new short term borrowings beyond 90 million, deferring about 46 million in capital expenditures from current work. About 35 million has been spent this year on new construction to meet demand and upgrades. Chicago projects include a Belden Street building addition to relieve charges and expand switchboard capacity.

Tragedy on the Tracks Kills Bowman Dairy Worker
John W. Lewis, an employee of Bowman Dairy for two decades, was killed July 3 by a North Western train. After alighting at Marengo station he attempted to cross the tracks along the embankment toward Lathrop and the dairy plant on Central. The west bound train struck him, flinging his body about 35 feet and fracturing his skull.
