Lightning Damages Roosevelt Hannah Apartment Building
An older frame building at Roosevelt and Hannah was struck by lightning Thursday morning causing a stubborn fire that heavily damaged the structure. Fire Chief William Wrtis put damage at $50,000. tenants escaped into rain as firefighters chopped through walls and ceilings to reach the flames. The blaze appears to have threatened the entire building, with earlier roof damage and a snorkel apparatus visible in the scene.

Forest Park Chamber of Commerce hosts a golf outing next Wednesday at Nordic Hills Country Club Itasca. Tee-off runs 8 30 a m to 12 30 p m with $10 golf fee and carts available. Drane elected Phi Beta Kappa at University of Illinois
Scott Drane, son of Forest Park Police Chief, elected to Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at UIUC. The society initiated 162 new members, 140 graduates and 22 juniors. UTUC eligibility requires Liberal Arts enrollment, language requirement, and six hours in each of four areas.
