On June 15 the Forest Park Garden club judges viewed fifty two gardens in the Home Ground Improvement contest. They praised neatness and care, noted bent grass lawns, and criticized rear yard debris and conspicuous ornaments. All gardens will be viewed again in September for possible Merit certificates.
Vogel Hreamer girls host the Detroit Rayls in a two game softball series at Vogel field starting Saturday night and Sunday. Rayls, Michigan state champions 1935 with a 45 win total, rank top in the international league. Pitcher Mabel Findlay leads a strong lineup. Vogel counters with standout wins by Finlay and a 2 to 4 ten inning win in the final gate last Sunday before 2,500 fans.
A landscape feature at Forest Park Water Works shows master artist Mar shall Quandt blending colossal flowers around a yellow brick building amid green lawn. Pink heganina and red reriniums contrast with soft green grbas and white stone fence, creating a vivid spring scene.
The Perpetual Help Mothes4 club will hold a picnic at Gages Take on Wednesday July 7. A truck will leave St Bernardine's church for the lake at 10 o'clock. The round trip costs 25 cents. Bring a basket of lunch.

Tom Black shared his life history as a speaker, detailing his early years, pharmacy career, and moves to Chicago and beyond, with club members applauding.

Forest Park Fire Department leader Chief John Pries warns parents to protect children during fireworks season. He notes fatalities from careless use, such as tossing lighted matches and cracking devices, often occurring hours after a supposed safe display. He urges a safe Fourth with the motto If we can't have a sane Fourth, let's have a safe Fourth.
Edward Gosch led the fast opening ceremony as Master Builder with fifteen officers in maroon and gold robes. Forest Park chapter toasted his installation as Installing Grand Master Builder, with Walter Will presiding and officers including Weyrauch Muehten and Hansen. A coal gift from Jah Daughters accompanied a coal bucket and new tie chain for Gosch amid a large crowd and escort by Brother Sandelin.
Chief Fred W. Licht warns of dangers beyond police oversight as drivers take eyes off the road. A Chicago Felony Court scene recalls a 14 year old accusing a drunken driver of a bicycle crash that killed a friend and crippled another. He stresses two safety lessons: never ride double on a bicycle and never drive after drinking. Drunken drivers belong behind bars, not behind the wheel.
Forest Park Public Library announces a six week summer reading cruise for grades 3 to 8. Registration begins June 28 with reading lists posted at playgrounds and the library. Participants can borrow multiple titles for vacation reading and advance to ranks like second mate or admiral based on completed books.
The Valpar Park Woman's Club board met at the program chairman's home to plan a year of entertainment. Mrs. Arthur McDowell will lead club History. A tentative program promises a refreshing year with entertainment and fun. On July 12 the board visits the Infant Welfare Station at 10:15 a.m. to learn more about the organization. Refreshments concluded a pleasant afternoon.
A Friday night meeting of the Better Government Party of Forest Park drew over 150 members to the Community Club House for Ladies Night. Entertainment came from local studios and cafes. souvenirs and refreshments were provided. Plans for a July golf tournament with township groups were announced, with Marshall Quandt and George Platt coordinating.
WPA offers summer business courses to aid unemployed and those in government work programs to upgrade office skills and improve employability. Classes, funded by federal and local programs, will be held at the village hall on July 6 with a $47 fee. further information available by telephone.
The night was beautiful and festive as the Riding Club held its first mounting on Tuesday evening under expert instruction by Mrs. Sara Peyton in the ring. The group then rode the bridle path, meeting weekly at Mrs. Peyton's Desplaines Avenue home at 7 o'clock with reservations via Catherine Wiedemann due by Monday night.
