Proviso High School Holds Ninety-Eight Graduates Address

Ninety-eight pupils from Forest Park grade 1 schools graduated Thursday evening at Proviso High School. Attorney Walter W. Mayer delivered the commencement address, praising grammar schools and the duty of parents, community, and state in education. The program included student performances and the ceremony concluded with remarks on belief in God, self, and others as foundations for future success.

Winter permits for 28 buildings in resident districts

December issued 28 building permits totaling 42 540 dollars with notable projects including a two family brick house at 631 Kigla avenue costing 11 000, garages at 1500 and 1510 Oircta avenue each 8 900, a bungalow at 203 Matengo avenue 5 000 and more with several other residences and an Imperial Methodist factory addition at Harrison street and Circle avenue. Highest value project is 11 000 for the brick two family. Seven garages were approved, the largest at Henry Arch corner Van Buren and Desplaines costing 2 000 dollars.

Proviso High Opens With New Courses For Frenchmen

Forest Park graduates entering Proviso High School will have a week’s vacation as second semester starts January 28. Twelve rooms will be ready soon but no daily Frenchmen accommodations yet. New courses for Frenchmen include English arithmetic civics and occupations, each a semester course, plus a program to introduce pupils to various professions and guide course choices for future work.

Fire destroys Joslyn Manufacturing Co. office building

Fire swept the Joslyn Manufacturing Co. offices on Hannah between Harvard and Fillmore Streets last Saturday noon, a 6400 frame structure with a large heating stove. Department crews arrived too late to save the building. A truck of FL Jorgensen backfired at Brown and Lathrop avenues Monday at 1 pm, causing $100 damage before flames were out, with total loss estimated at $400.

Neighborhood Club Chorus Debuts at St Peters Church

The Neighborhood Chorus under John Mingeme made its debut Friday evening January at St Peters Lutheran church on Adams street. A crowd attended as the mixed chorus performed five numbers by unison chorus and solos from Mrs Leaster Wilhelm Miss Hasel Allen Master Jean Edward Latten and Miss Gertrude Pits. The program featured works by Rachmaninoff Bolyssbert Protheroe Warner Brahms and others with praise for soloist Maude Boushough and a return of audience response. The Neighborhood club thanked St Peters church Oak Park Neighborhood Civic Club and Forest Park for support and rehearsal space.
