Soldiers from a Chicago group welcome the team after marching from Lasalle Street station back to Forest Park as the Blackhawks, famed for training at Sparta Wisconsin, prepare for events this week.
During the summer of 1918 Forest Park soldiers headed for Chicago where friends and families greeted them with a joyful welcome. The Patel Service League, chaperoned by Clara Hoglear and Walter Heilewan, organized groups of town girls at the Art Institute area. The scene featured cheers of There’s Schuls There’s Heifan and Good Morning Mr Zip as the weary lads passed by. A breakfast, then a triumphal march through the streets, hotel meals, theatres, and a grand ball at the Coliseum followed. Red Crown workers served refreshments while Mrs Howley and Mr Howler assisted at the Khaki and Blue club. The band played and couples danced as eight girls per boy filled the floor. At 10:30 the soldiers boarded trains for Camp Grant, after hot coffee and doughnuts from the Red Cross, bidding farewell with hope of soon being mustered out.

Alfred Reese, Pioneer church’s first returning front boy, shared his war front experiences last Sunday, thrilling attendees. Next Sunday A Forrest McO announced a talk on National War Work Council canteen service in Chicago, highlighting Forest Park volunteers. A junior choir for ages 8 to 12 forms at Pioneer, with weekly Tuesday practice, and a park hall welcome event on January 29 invites all residents to attend.
Jacob Schwab headed the Commercial Ag association at Forest York on Friday January 10. Henry Bol presided. reports showed donations of 400 for truck drive and 58 baskets distributed to Forest Wark’s poor. Schwab won the nomination with 31 of 44 votes and pledged harmony with the association’s aims. A north alley lamp project was approved for temporary use, with a permanent plan to be installed if accepted. Refreshments and good fellowship closed the meeting.
The Recreadon Banco club was entertained Thursday by Mrs. Williams at her mother’s home. Unique decorations reflected the game theme. First prize went to Miss Jahr and consolation to Miss Katherine Krieger. Attendees included Mia Williams Irene Jabr Eron Adam Tamiahe Curtlé Katherine Krieger Grace Bleasman Genevieve Moris Ruth Schempp Knolly Schoffer Joan Bachan. A delicious supper followed, described as one of the club’s most enjoyable affairs.
Special attention to the primary department children’s party at Community Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon January 18 at 2:00. Elaborate plans promise a happy afternoon for the little folks with refreshments. Mothers are asked to remind the children of the event.
A farewell dinner honoring Private Percy Harrison and his parents Mr and Mrs Thomas Harrison of Branston Missouri. Guests included Mr and Mrs Harrison and sons, Mr and Mrs Taylor, Mr and Mrs Blurray and Tully, Mr and Mrs George Gold, Miss Evelyn Gold, and others from surrounding towns. Music selections were played. the event occurred Saturday January 18.
The Service League of Hedluth hosts Caroline Wicker from Mallan heritage for a monthly rally at the Munletpuk Building on Friday night January 7. Wicker’s lively talk features travel tales, Italian and Indian customs, and songs from various cultures, drawing praise from the girls. Local leaders, including Ann Trim minghow, add energy as plans unfold for a future program and a Welcome Home celebration at Park Ballroom.

Families awaiting letters of support from friends and schoolmates of 1900, Forest Park and Washington DC noted. Infant son of Mr and Mrs World Richer died the day of birth.
Edward Hivel reports a brief stop at a welcoming house in Vila Angel with warm care from owners. The Ladies Aid Society of the Plon ger Presbyterial church plans a meeting January 22. Mrs. Adam Mppinger Jr. praised for faithful care, and many locals mentioned visiting relatives and military arrivals. Wolf Brothers sell property at 7410 Madison Street to Sam Luctzmas and Usewalk for a second hand store, opening around May 13.
Plans are underway for a Homecoming celebration at Ue Purest Park soldier on Thursday January 23 under the Setiioe Community League of Koreat Park committee chaired by Saul Lleluge. A large program includes a welcome, supper, speeches, dancing, and music with local leagues and clubs participating.
The meeting of the stockholders of Harlem State Bank was held to elect officers for the coming year. W. Osamaer, president. W. F. Louse, vice president. Kost dideh, cashier. Community calls for veterans to attend a supper and program at Forest Park venues that evening.
