A 20 year old Chicago man, Steven Carell of Haddon, was shot Wednesday at 7432 Washington and treated at Oak Park Hospital in good condition. Gerald Stokes, visiting tenant Daryl Johnson, reported two armed men exited the elevator after a buzzer request. Police detained all involved but filed no charges.
The Roos Memorial Fund at Forest Park Public Library enables book purchases beyond normal budget. Created by Mrs. Bess Roos after her husband Albert C Roos died in 1965, it began with $1,000 and now totals $41,200. Interest funds buy books the library otherwise could not acquire.
Forest Park police report a Friday robbery at the Golden Steer Restaurant on Roosevelt with about $3,000 stolen from two wooden money boxes in the basement liquor storage area. An undetermined amount of liquor also disappeared. two leads are under investigation.
The Howard R. Mont Community Center hosts a women only excursion to the Museum of Science and Industry for Christmas Around the World. About 30 trees from diverse lands will be shown with an international buffet at 6 pm and a 7:30 pm Japan themed performance, returning by 9 pm. Becrer of an unpleasant forecast Dantel Pierce deputy assessor of Cook County tells Proviso officials and legislators that the forthcoming quadrennial assessment will not bring relief. He warns real estate taxes are not expected to decrease and foresees little cheer for Proviso property owners.
Forest Park police solved a string of north side burglaries by a Forest Park youth aged 11 who confessed to five break ins through open doors and windows seeking pin money. The case will be handled by Forest Park youth officers.
Forest Park District 91 schools lose about 50000 yearly due to erratic personal property tax collections in Illinois. Supt. Arthur Jones calls for immediate legislation to either ensure collection or replace the tax. State aid tied to paper revenue worsens the impact, with losses of 15000 to 18000 annually.
Santa Claus returns Saturday by invitation of the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce. He will roam Madison Street from Desplaines to Hannah from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Roosevelt Road between Elgin and Marengo from 1 to 2 p.m. Programs repeat Saturday December 17 for those unable to attend.
Thousands of unique lanterns will light Forest Park on Christmas Eve creating a festive glow. Residents are urged to decorate lawns driveways and walks with five feet spacing to maximize the holiday display. Luminaria sell for one dollar per five pieces at the Howard R Mohr Community Center with sales on December 9 10 11 and 16 17 18 from 9 am to 4 pm. For more information call 771 7737.
