The last of 25 flowering crabapple trees was planted on Madison Street near Beloit Avenue on Wednesday November 23. Merchants funded the project. the village will plant and maintain the trees and police should be alerted to any damage.
The Forest Lions announce a contest with first prize 25 dollars and second prize 15 dollars. Winners receive plaques and judging will be by Fred Ehringer Jr, Tony Mueller, Carl Schwibl, and Bit Vais from the Lions Club Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis. The tentative winner date is Thursday night December 23.
The Post Office lobby stays open until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. A stamp vending machine sells 8¢ stamps and 14¢ All Mail stamps. December extra mail collections run December 6 through December 23 in Forest Park.
Forest Park officers faced multiple armed suspect incidents over the week. In DesPlaines and Harrison a hold up at a service station led to the arrest of Leon Surge, 19, of Chicago, and a juvenile. other captures included suspects in Westchester and Hillside cases.
Saint Bernardine Women’s Club presents the Edison Choraliers after the 8 P.M. meeting on Tuesday December 7 in the school hall at 815 Elgin Avenue. Louis Magor, director and Thomas Grabowski, accompanist lead 25 mixed voices in a Christmas and winter songs program. Refreshments served. guests welcome.
Forest Park Post 7181 of the VFW delivered food baskets to seven local families for Thanksgiving on Tuesday evening November 23. Ten post members coordinated the project, aiding 29 recipients with boxed meals and expressions of thanks and joy.
Chicago Chapter 33 DAV marks fifty years of service for Louis Loeffler, state service officer of the Veterans Administration in Hines, with a testimonial dinner Friday at the Martinique Restaurant. Edward T. Conroy, DAV national commander, will be guest speaker. about 500 are expected. Loeffler, a World War I disabled veteran, lives in Forest Park and belongs to DAV Chapter 33.
State Senator Howard R. Mohr of Forest Park serves as a delegate to the 1971 White House Conference on Aging called by President Nixon. He notes the need for coordinated action across federal state and local governments to address aging in America and says Illinois work on aging policies will continue. He was appointed by Governor Ogilvie to represent Illinois at the conference.
