Navy Youth Killed in Kingsville Maneuver Tragedy

Melvin Erickson an 18 year old Navyman was killed Aug 18 during a fire drill at the Naval Air Base Kingsville Texas when a truck rolled over him crushing his chest he is survived by guardians Dr and Mrs William Curtis a sister Marilyn Erickson who was active in Boy Scouts in this area graduated from Proviso and joined the Navy a year ago

Community Chest Campaign Committee Seeks Support in Forest Park

The Community Chest campaign committee met with John Mitchell Stern on Aug. 18. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Stern Frank Vertuno Carl Loyd Jeane Hermann Roy Duke and Alice Zimmerman. They planned house to house canvassing and a letters drive to awaken Forest Park residents to agency needs and urged a $5 per family pledge, about $1 per day.

Bellwood Teen Dislocates Arm During Pool Water Dive

James Buckner eighteen of Bellwood dislocated his arm Friday while water diving at the pool. Burglars forced a window at Silverman and Weiss, 1303 Desplaines, Monday and stole 325 dollars in cash along with an adding machine check writer a radio and other office equipment.

Lincoln Essay Contest Opens for Illinois Students

Merchants Petition Village Council Over License Increase

The Village Council received a letter from the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce containing a petition signed by 51 merchants opposing higher business licenses. They claim current taxes overburden merchants and higher fees would deter leasing empty stores. Mayor Meyer said no definite license increase was proposed and a committee from the Chamber will meet to discuss revenue ideas.

The Forest Park Welcome Wagon Club hosts a splash party this Friday night at the Forest Park Pool. Melrose Park Girl Drowns in Pool

Theresa Allegretti ten year old Melrose Park girl died at Forest Park Swimming Pool when she disappeared at 6 pm and was found submerged in five feet of water after 20 minutes. Lifeguards and family searched the area before a coroner's jury ruled the death accidental.

Unidentified trespassers damage Arrow Petroleum property

Last week unknown persons entered the Arrow Petroleum lot at 7419 Franklin and moved two trucks around the lot. One vehicle struck a wall of a neighboring saw mill, creating a hole. Authorities seek clues as the investigation proceeds.
