Local man embezzles $40,000 from Oak Park bank
John Hagenauer a 39 year old chief teller at Oak Park Trust and Savings bank was arrested Tuesday on an embezzlement charge. He admitted dipping into bank funds beginning January 1949 to cover losses from horse races. The scheme used a private double entry but misaligned with bank records only revealed when a switch to machine bookkeeping occurred. Hagenauer held on a $5,000 bond and awaits indictment or speedy trial.

Charles Berndt Here 54 Years Taken By Death
Charles Berndt a Forest Park resident for over 47 years died Monday July 25 at age 77. Funeral services were held Thursday July 28 at Drewi sh chapel with interment in Concordia cemetery. Born in Germany he came to the United States at 13 and moved to Forest Park in 1902. He worked 56 years for American Con company Maywood division. He married Sophie Albers in 1902 and they had five children, three of whom preceded him in death. he leaves his wife two sons and two grandchildren.

Child Struck By Car In Oak Park Tragedy
Eight year old Penny Hart of Oak Park was hit August 4 by a Chicago driver, Charles Kratochyil, while returning from a cemetery. The accident happened at Roosevelt and Harlem as Penny darted into traffic after getting off a bus with her mother. Penny sustained hip, leg, and side lacerations and was taken to Oak Park Hospital. Kratochyil thanked Forest Park police for their prompt response and kindness.
