Elmer Prices Retires After 27 Years With Forest Park Fire
Elmer Prices of 412 Thomas retires after a 27 year service with the Forest Park Fire Department. Born March 1, 1898 in Forest Park, he joined as a fireman in his late twenties and became a lieutenant in June 1942. He leaves on a two week fishing trip to Minocqua, Wisconsin, then plans more fishing north. He is the father of two daughters, and with his departure there is no one left in the Prices family to continue the fire department legacy.

Whelpley Death Declared Accident
A six man coroner's jury ruled Florence Whelpley death accidental after a Feb 28 crash with an Oak Park Fire truck at Harlem and Randolph. Mrs Whelpley died en route to Oak Park hospital. Earl Whelpley survived and was hospitalized. John Bergler testified at the inquest.

Man Killed By Auto on Roosevelt
Sal Finkel a six foot Chicagoan aged about 60 was killed when struck by a car on Roosevelt road near the river in Forest Park early Tuesday The auto occupied by four air force men returning to O Hare field was driven by Arlin Filler 22 Fort Indiana The car was traveling west at 218 am when Finkel sprang into the path of the vehicle He rolled onto the hood and died en route to the morgue Police identified the deceased by laundry marks on his clothing and the crash is under investigation

Fire truck driver testifies on Harlem Randolph crash
The driver said he was north on Harlem at about 25 mph with siren and bell, slowed for five cars near Randolph, then moved into the southbound lane to turn. He claimed reduced to 15 mph for a wide turn and brake when warned. He did not see the eastbound Whelpley car due to a used car lot blocking the view. Lt Williamson and Chief Cortino testified as inquest witnesses. Jurors deliberated three minutes before verdict.
