Selling Poultry by the Carlots
State Department of Agriculture extension program expands poultry marketing to statewide wholesale via car lots. Rutherford county farmers shipped thousands of birds to Seaboard depots, earning about 3879 dollars for week ending April 16. Prices ranged from 10 to 40 cents per bird, with farmers receiving full proceeds. The success prompts another car lot and signals North Carolina moving toward major poultry shipping status in the South.
