Party visits Chimney Rock amid scenic charms explorations
An eight member party of 46 Geographical Society of Chicago members returned from a three day study trip to Chimney Rock. Led by H D Pickering they explored Chimney Rock Mountains, Needle's Eye crevices and Bottomless pools, climbing Over Ridge to Hickory Nut Falls, then by Appian Way to Chimney Rock and Esmeralda Inn. The Wolfe Tours group organized midwest travelers for the season.

Spindale Band Notes Open Air Concert and Schedule
About two thousand people attended the Spindale Band open air concert Sunday at 4 00 on the Old Spindale Inn lawn. The program lasted about forty minutes. The band will play at the school auditorium Wednesday night as the Alexander school presents Capt Racket with music between acts. The Rutherfordton Sunday school will stage The Minister s Wife s New Bonnet next Saturday evening in the school auditorium, with the band playing. The Young People s Missionary Society will receive part of the proceeds. On Friday May 15 at 8 00 the band will play for the Better Homes campaign at the demonstration home on Spindale avenue. Mr W H Padgett was elected vice president and Mr Clarence Griffin secretary treasurer. New members Earl Hardin Pink Nanney and Claude Reid.

Heflin to Speak in Rutherfordton on Armistice Day
Delegation J A Capps and R E Price traveled to Shelby to hear Senator Thos J Heflin of Alabama and urge a November 11 Armistice celebration speech in Rutherfordton. Heflin, after hearing the town’s appeal, said he would decide by August’s end if able to attend. The address on The New South was well received and organizers plan to secure him as the featured speaker.
