Bank Examiners Delay Reports On Rutherford County Banks

Bank examiners have not completed work on six Rutherford County banks closed last week. No official condition statement is available yet. reports may come next week. Rumors persist of county funds or new banks in Forest City and Rutherfordton, but County Attorney B T Jones says deposits are secured by ample securities and surety bonds. The county will continue operations with no curtailment while audits finish and guarantees are settled.

Clemson Doctor to Speak at Kiwanis Ladies Night

Dr. Daniels of Clemson College S C will speak at the Kiwanis Club next Monday evening during a ladies night. A large crowd is expected. The article notes county funds are liquidated to tide over an emergency while Cool Springs teachers volunteer to continue teaching without pay for the school term.

Record Crowds At Tabernacle In Cliffside

Cliffside February 11 crowds surge at Stephens tabernacle as pleasant weather and moonlight drive capacity. Three services last Sunday drew large attendance with delegations from Trinity Camp Creek Avondale and others. Henrietta led with 400 to 500 members while Mt Pleasant Baptist hit over 100 percent. A Tuesday night section will host the colored church crew with a special sermon and music.

Spindale Textile Club Holds Meeting Monday

Spindale Feb 11 The Spindale Textile Club held a luncheon meet at the Spindale House attended by about sixty overseers from the Spindale mills. Talks urged overseers to monitor employee conditions and detect genuine need while avoiding new hires. The group signaled continued operation during deer sacrifice if needed to keep mill workers employed.

Rutherford Woman Joins National Geographic Staff

Miss Margaret Justice of Rutherfordton has been appointed to the staff of National Geographic Magazine in Washington. She is currently in New Orleans on a special assignment and is the daughter of the late Rev. T. B. Justice and Mrs. Justice, who now resides in Washington, D. C.

Death Claims Mrs Amanda James

Mrs Amanda Alice James aged 61 died after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday at First Methodist Forest City with Rev M F Moores in charge. Interment in Cool Springs cemetery. Survived by four children Horace James Atlanta Ga Newton and Clarence James Forest City and Mrs Maggie Porter Forest City plus three brothers and three sisters. Pall bearers and flower bearers named. She was a member of the Methodist church.
