In Rutherfordton on February 4 a mass meeting of citizens formed a temporary organize akin to a protective league. Over 500 people attended from Rutherford and surrounding towns. Temporary officers and a board of directors were elected to unite merchants and residents, promote home trade, and resist chain store competition. A program featured the Spindale Band and speakers who urged local advertising, cleaner stores, and a live-at-home policy to boost local commerce.

Forest City library hits record circulation on Saturday
The Forest City Public Library saw Saturday as the busiest day in its history with 202 books circulated. January totals reached 930, the largest monthly circulation since opening, and donations were gratefully received. The library now holds 779 volumes as patronage grows and more books are requested.

Romeo Hicks, eighty four, a long time physician in Rutherford County, died after months of illness at his home in Henrietta. Funeral held at Henrietta Methodist Church with Rev Ezelle and Rev Lynch officiating. interment at Harri Cemetery. Survived by widow Mary Lewis Elmore Hicks and a brother in Chesnee. Former Forest City Pastor Killed Saturday
Rev. O. L. Stringfield 79, an early founder helper of Meredith College, was struck and killed by a freight train near Wendell while walking to town. He served Forest City from 1922 to 19 until Pastor Ayers arrived, and was known across the state for church work. He leaves a widow and several children. Funeral services were held here Monday.
