Plans for Independence Day festivities by the American Legion are complete. Several thousand people are expected for the veterans parade to open the day followed by a noon barbecue and a full day of entertainment.
Floresville hosts a county wide Fourth of July celebration sponsored by American Legion Post No 38. The day features a veteran parade at 10:60 AM, a barbecue serving sheep, goats and veal, a large dinner and all day events at the fair grounds, followed by Independence Day speeches by noted officials and a short course on Medina Hereford Ranch operations. The event draws ex service members from Wilson County and beyond with camping and demonstrations planned.
H Radford attorney of Kenedy and candidate for Representative from the 79th district toured Wilson and Karnes counties last Saturday. He said he would intensify his campaign in the two counties ahead of the July 26 primary, opposing A N Baker of Stockdale, Wilson County.
American Legion Auxiliary at Forestville Post No. 38 appeals for cash and food items for a July Fourth barbecue. They request onions tomatoes pickles sugar and red beans plus any cash donations. No house canvass will occur. contributions are due by July 2.
A ten day revival under a large tent begins tonight at Fairview. Rev. C. H. King from San Antonio will lead the Baptist meeting for the local association. Services start tonight and continue through the week and weekend.
Poultry producers gathered Tuesday at the Candling Station in Osterville. Officers were named for one branch with Ullmann in charge.
A meeting at the chamber of commerce office led to the formation of Floresville Branch of the Poultry Producers Association of Texas. FE A Flieller was named president and Dewitt Murray secretary with John Schroeder and Edgar Greif as trustees. AL sub-handling station now handles eggs twice weekly for members. Pfit Mimann named as managing agent and candling supervisor. About eighteen poultrymen are shipping through the local branch. A general county meeting is planned for July 4 at the chamber room with Mr Reed of San Antonio as principal speaker. All county poultrymen are invited.
Beeville Texas June 24 Beeville Bureau Busy With Melons shipments. 10 to 15 cars daily through the Texas Farm Bureau Melon Growers Association with headquarters in Beeville. So far 7 cars shipped this season to Monday. Cars loaded at Falfurrias Premont Alice Riviera Charlotte Live Oak and Bee county points. Cars sent from Dallas as far north as Winnipeg Canada and to states west of the Mississippi except far Western states supplied by California. Consumers in Texas Sweetheart melons widely eaten.
Floresville student Mosea Stephenson appears on the 1929 30 distinguished student list at Texas A and M College Station. The roster includes 132 students with 42 freshmen 27 sophomores and 36 seniors. Members met the requirement of no failed subjects and at least sixty grade points for the session.
