Auto wreck injures Yoakum residents including Paulus family
Five Yoakumites were hurt when a fire truck struck and demolished a touring car owned by Attorney H S Paulus. Mrs Paulus and her two daughters were cut and bruised, while 4 year-old Doroth Louise Moore escaped serious injury. Slim Randle, the truck driver, suffered internal injuries. Mr Paulus was in Cuero at court when the crash occurred.

Texas tax rate to the maximum 77 cents this year
Austin June 19 Texas faces the highest state tax rate in history as the total is expected to reach 77 cents the constitutional maximum. The 75 cent cap has prevailed but the pension tax increase from five to seven cents per hundred valuation drives the rise. With drought and school funding needs the 77 cent rate seems inevitable. The State Automatic Tax Board will set the rate July 15 to 20 based on comptroller calculations showing expected income and appropriations. The bill aims to cover school funds textbook purchases and general fund obligations for the 39th Legislature to avert further deficits.

Auto Headlight List To Be Ready July 1

Fairs Cancelled In Guadalupe And Hays Counties
At a called Seguin meeting the Guadalupe and Hays County Fair Associations decided almost unanimously not to hold fairs in Guadalupe and Hays counties this year due to extreme drought. Exhibits would be poor and attractions impaired. Only once before since organization, during the late war, did the association skip a fair. Davis of Floresville reports.

Sam Clark dies in San Antonio after illness
Sam Clark aged 39 died in San Antonio last Friday night and was buried in Privilege cemetery Saturday afternoon. Rev H 4H Washington conducted the services. He had been ill for some time and had lived in Privilege for years before moving to San Antonio with his family about two years ago. Born in Stockdale Wilson County, he is survived by his wife and children and several brothers and sisters near Stockdale. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

Auto Headlights Must Be Adjusted by September 1st
Austin Texas June 15 The state highway department headlight division announces a new light act will not apply to individuals until September 1st. Read Granberry says county test stations should be ready by August 1 and motorists should have headlights adjusted early. Device list approved will be available the last week in June with testing starting June 16.
