Governor Alfred To ri ¢ National Convention honors Marior ni Fore for Miss Texas Centennial title and recognition. Vice President John N. Garner also salutes the achievement at a statewide event.
Governor Allred appoints Marion Fore of Floresville as a Miss Texas Centennial delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia starting June 23. The honor was announced at a Texas Press Association banquet in Tyler last week with Louis C. Elbert presenting the scroll from Governor Allred.
STOCKDALE Texas June 17 Pete Richter Sr had a foot cut off yesterday due to a prolonged infection. The operation was necessary and his condition is reported as satisfactory.
Postmaster Lee McDaniel distributed about $16,700 in bonus bonds to ex service men during the first three days of the week. He operates a special booth at the First City National Bank with help from bank staff and American Legion members. Elbert W. Franklin received the first bonus bond issued locally.
On June 16 a group of farmers and business leaders from Wilson County joined Camp Richard M staff for an inspection tour. Myers, aiding the camp in illustrating erosion control methods, reported high satisfaction with the work. Terraces held firm, sodded areas stayed intact, and no washing or gully formation occurred on the inspected plots.
Wilson County, Texas reports 14 FHA modernization notes insured through April 20, 1986, totaling 6320 dollars. State director H P Drought announced statewide totals of 38829 notes valued at over 11 million dollars and one mortgage insured locally.
Stockdale Texas June 17 reports a local candidate suffers a broken incident as details remain unclear with no further information available.
Allan Luker, a state highway employee, was rushed to a doctor after being cut by a steel piece while operating an air hammer on the Stockdale Seguin highway. The incident left him weak. he received emergency treatment, stopped the bleeding, and was released to recover at home. The Wilson County Democratic Executive Committee met June 15 in Floresville to fill vacancies and set ballots for the run off primary.
Rev. A. H. Clark of Kingsville will preach at the Baptist Church next Sunday June 21 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. All members urged to be present and others are invited to be with us.
The north entrance pillars to Floresville on the San Antonio Corpus Christi highway will be dedicated to all Wilson County World War Veterans by the American Legion Auxiliary at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21. Mayor John Reese and Bert Cameron support city council and highway department cooperation to route traffic around the block during the ceremony. The program includes Colors advanced by Mrs. Sewell M. Schultz and Mrs. Lieberman.
Florésville shipped six carloads of watermelons to yesterday afternoon with two more cars loading. The first car was shipped Tuesday by M. M. Mills. Buyers paid 30 to 40 cents per hundred this week. The crop will be light in this section compared with former years. Stockdale had shipped 35 cars up to yesterday afternoon.
In Kingsville Texas on June 15 Evelyn Fore of Floresville won the Tex Mex Natural Gas fine scholarship for the top grade point average among first two years in the Home Economics program at Texas College of Arts and Industries. Athleen Hall of Kingsville placed second and Evelyn Dunn of Hebbrowville third. The college offers BS and BA degrees in home economics and eligibility for the Smith Hughes teaching certificate.
An all day picnic and celebration is planned at Sutherland Springs park and swimming pool on July 4. Mrs. T J Williams says the event features children games, a large barbecue, political addresses, a bathing girl revue at 5 pm, and a dance that evening with all residents invited.
Press-day visitors joined Chronicle-Journal staff as Dallas hosts the Texas Centennial Exposition. Over 500000 attendees in eight days. Officials forecast attendance possibly surpassing 10000000 for the 172 remaining days. The grounds feature a terraced lagoon, towering statuary, and murals highlighting Texas history through the century.
State Senator Roy Sanderford of Belton, candidate for governor, spoke in Floresville on the gubernatorial race. County Attorney D Richard Voges introduced him on the courthouse lawn. Sanderford urged old age pensions reform and taxes, proposing to remove the pension commissioner and let counties certify pensions, backed by a general sales tax.
The Boening farm on Highway 16 between here and Path won district honors after a top Wilson county showing in the Centennial Farm and Home Contest. Judges Miss Bennie Campbell and W I Glass presided as district rivals scored 9,600 of 10,000. County agent A A Story Jr and Miss Blanche Crumpler noted the farm’s modern, well organized facilities and family participation in improvements.
