Homecoming event colors Floresville church celebration

A Floresville Church of Christ homecoming drew about 8,000 attendees to the State Highway Park for a large afternoon with decorated grounds, dinner, and singing. The service featured a sermon on Great Days, one conversion, and remarks by visiting ministers from San Antonio Houston and Stockdale. The building’s remodeling marked its completion, with long-standing members and multiple families listed among active participants and guests.

Poth Beats Runge 7 3 In Second Round Opener

The Poth Bobcats won 7 to 3 over Runge in a see-saw second round Bluebonnet League game at Runge. Calvin Hellums earned his fourth win, scattering eight hits and fanning ten. Phil Ramirez hit a long homer to spark a late two run lead, Frankie Repka starred at second, and Poth eyes a stronger second half with Hellums likely to handle most mound duties. They travel to Three Rivers next Sunday for Nixon at Peth on June 20.

Floresville Melons and Peas Shipments Rise in Heat

Floresville began shipping its 1948 melons last Friday June 4 with Inchess Bros of Kansas City and Emil Ventur each sending a carload. By Wednesday night 60 carloads had rolled out. Black-eyed peas mature quickly due to the heat wave with large track loads dispatched. Poth reports similar peppered peas activity. Floresville closed the onion season last week with 28 carloads.

Saspamco Pipers Defeat Kenedy Panthers in 10–2 Win

The Saspamco Pipers beat the Kenedy Panthers 10 to 2 at Kenedy last Sunday. It is the Pipers 10th straight win with no losses. They schedule a next game against Hot Wells on Sunday in Saspamco with expected tough competition and a 6:30 PM start.

Floresville Firemen Attend State Convention Delegates

Fire Chief Fritz Nitschmann and secretary reporter We Teltschik represented the Floresville Volunteer Fire Department as delegates at the Texas Firemen's Convention in San Antonio. The event drew over 2500 firefighters from across the state and ran through last night. Floresville's pumper race team members Richard Bolf, G. Ormond, Frank Boll Jr, W Pfeil, L Svetlik, and W H Teltschilk attended Wednesday to participate in the contest.

Floresville Band to March in Tom Tom Parade Today

Floresville has been honored by invitation to a special concert after marching in the Yoakum Tom Tom Parade at 2 p m today. Director Fritz Telt schik leads the Floresville School Band, which will depart by school bus at 8 a m. Citizens from Floresville and Wilson County plan to attend the celebration today and Saturday.

The Floresville Eagles meet the Kenedy Parithers at B. A. Jimenez Baseball Park in Floresville Sunday afternoon, June 13, at 8 30. Kenedy fields a strong squad and the game is billed as a top contest of the season. A large crowd is expected as Floresville seeks revenge after losing to the Panthers weeks ago.
