The Wilson County Red Cross met June 6 at 1 o clock in the Wilson County Library. New officers were elected led by General Chairman Mrs. H B Jackson and Fausto Toscano as fund drive chair. Plans cover fund drives, first aid and water safety training, and expanding local aid to families of servicemen. a strong plea for community support and details of loans paid back. An urgent directors meeting is set for June 13 to fill board vacancies.

Black-Eyed Pea Farmers Warned on Stink Bug Infestation

County Agent E. L. Spaniel warns pea farmers about stink bug damage reducing value by up to two cents per pound. Spraying can cost two dollars per acre, but a 400 pound per acre yield under two quarts per acre may still leave bugs. Warns extreme caution with parathion to avoid drift or skin contact.

Brownlow Attends Annual Plant Technicians Meeting

Amanda Brownlow assistant superintendent of W S Dickey Clay Mfg Co at Saspamco attended the annual technicians meeting held in Pittsburg Kansas last week. The company's Pittsburg plant was described as the most modern of its kind in the United States. Clint Whittaker plant chemist and Saspamco accompanied Brownlow to the meeting.

Joe Ed Baker Back Home After Illness

Joe Ed Baker son of Mr and Mrs Tom Baker has been under treatment at Santa Rosa Hospital since March. He was brought to his Floresville home last week and, though his physician restricts visitors, friends are glad to hear of his gradual improvement. He served as president of the Student Council and senior class and received his diploma in absentia at the May 27 commencement.

Billy Wright Survives Wreck Near Floresville

Billy Wright son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Wright of Floresville narrowly escaped serious injuries after a car overturned several times on a sharp Charco road turn. He had just returned from Austin where he attended Texas University and planned a summer job with Humble Oil. Treated at Kenedy Hospital with facial wounds and bruises he hopes to resume work in a week or two and return home.

Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee Set for June 24 25

Stockdale the Watermelon Capital of Southwest Texas prepares for the 4th annual Watermelon Jubilee on Friday and Saturday June 24 and 25 at the high school auditorium and rodeo grounds. Mrs Sophie Gaertner Rites Held in Floresville

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church in Floresville for Mrs Sophie Gaertner age 84 who died in Pleasanton Texas on June 7 1955 at 1130 am. The body was brought to Murray Funeral Home for a rosary and burial followed at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. She had lived in the community for many years. An obituary will appear next.

C W Lehmberg Dies Of Heart Attack in Brownwood

C W Lehmberg, first County Agent in Wilson County and an early Extension Service worker in Texas, died of a heart attack at his Brownwood home this week after retiring years ago. He was among the pioneering figures in agricultural extension work.

Democrats Rally At Atascosa Barbecue

Democrats of Atascosa County held a Tuesday night meeting at the Bed Parker ranch between Pleasanton and Poteet. About 150 guests enjoyed barbecue supper proceeds to the Democratic fund and national party drive. Principal speaker Judge Ralph Yarborough of Austin delivered a strong talk on Democratic principles, with attendees from Wilson County and Floresville.
