Seven Counties Seek Immediate Relief From Drought

In Wilson County and six neighboring drought battered counties seven county judges and other officials met at the courthouse to seek swift aid. They reported complete crop failures credit is shut off and livestock sales are rising. They urged immediate cotton parity payments from AAA and WPA assistance.

Denhawken Farmers Meeting Set For June 5

Denhawken and cotton producers are invited to a Denhawken community one variety cotton association meeting on Monday afternoon at 2 30 at the school house. Austin reports Traffic and Safety Engineer Harry S. Phillips warns motorists to stay in their lane and avoid the center stripe except when passing. He notes 80 of 333 fatalities in the first quarter were head on collisions, urging observance of the new continuous center stripe on major highways to boost safety.

Wilson County Scouts Invited to Camp Near Ingram

Wilson County Boy Scouts are invited to the Alamo Area Council's greater camp near Ingram Texas opening June 18 priced at 6.00 for seven days. More than 100 places are spoken for and demand is high due to a strong program, camp doctor, handicraft facilities, and a free camp for eight or more boys. A. Hoelscher Wilson District Chairman notes strong interest and predicted attendance around 400, close to last year's. Camp-O-Ral was held May 12-13 in San Ramon Park Basin.

State Soil Conservation Meeting Draws Wilson Delegation

Wilson County sent a 14 member delegation to the Statewide Soil Conservation meeting in Temple on Monday. Dr. Bennett of Washington, head of the program, and prominent state speakers led a crowd estimated at 1500 as the new Soil Conservation Board was formed. Southwestern Farmers Getting Debt Relief

In Dallas on May 29 Guion Gregg announced a relief effort for debt distressed farm families across a 24 county area in Southwest Texas. Wilson County leads among districts in debt reduction. E. B. Patterson of San Antonio serves as district supervisor. County debt adjustment committees act as conciliators with creditors to extend time and reduce debts to fit farmers’ payment abilities, with FSA loan and advisory help to restore profitability.

Rain Breaks Drought Quietly Across Wilson County

Rain from Tuesday night and Wednesday delivered scattered relief across Wilson County quelling the drought that began last summer. Totals varied widely from county locales with Floresville at 2.25 inches and Kosciusko over an inch, while some areas like Path and Pandora saw lighter falls and no general downpour.

Houston banker joins Pleasanton First National Bank staff

The former Wilson County clerk J. H. Houston has accepted a position with the First National Bank in Pleasanton. He will divide his time between home here and the new duties, while Mrs. Lillie Houston presides as president and H. Houston chairs the bank's board.
