Wilson County Relief Board elected officers and meets

The Wilson County Relief Board elected E. H. Reinhard as Chairman and Rev. J. R. Kidwell as Secretary at a November 29 1933 meeting in the Wilson County Courthouse. Texas Relief Commission officials advised on policy and the board will govern under FE funding rules. A subsequent note reports the Wilson County Post No 38 American Legion will rent the W O W Hall as its future home with a December 14 housewarming event for veterans and spouses.

Tom Hunter Visits Floresville on Last Saturday Morning

Hon Tom Hunter of Wichita Falls, a veteran Texas politician and former governor candidate, called at the Chronicle Journal office last Saturday morning on his way to Corpus Christi for the Young Democratic Association closing session. He announced his plans to run again in 1984 and said his hat was in the ring.

Legion Auxiliary Plans Christmas Cheer and New Home

The Legion Auxiliary to Post No. 38 met at 8 p m Tuesday in the courthouse with Mrs. Alex Lieberman presiding. Plans included four Christmas boxes for ex service men at Fort Sam Houston and a birthday box. A year book, typed by Alta Magruder’s class, will debut. Unit and Post to share a new Woodmen Hall headquarters with a dedication set for December 14. A piano donated by Mrs. Hal Warren will grace the new home.

Grandma Marshall Buried Here On Thanksgiving Day

Martha A. Grandma Marshall aged 86 died November 29 1933 at her son L W Marshall’s San Antonio. Body moved to Floresville service 1 pm Thanksgiving with Rev J T Howard officiating. Interment Floresville cemetery. Born Wilcox County Alabama June 11 1847 she lived in Texas since youth. Married H J Marshall at Tilden four children three living. Survivor list ends with three daughters?

Miss Evelyn Merchant Joins Royal Academia at Baylor

Belton Texas Dec 6 Miss Evelyn Merchant of Floresville was initiated into Royal Academia senior society at Baylor College. Merchant’s strong scholastic standing placed her among twenty two upperclassmen admitted this term. Royal Academia, Baylor’s oldest senior society, traces to the campus era at Old Independence and emphasizes literary achievement.

Rabbit Drive In Sunnyside Community Dec 14

An all-day Rabbit Drive will be held in the Sunnyside community on Thursday December 14 starting at 7 00 am. A free barbecue dinner will be served at noon. Hunters from Floresville and Wilson County are invited to participate bringing guns and ammunition for a large day. Plan to make the event a big success.

Package Sale Postponed Due To Bi-District Game

Uvalde notes that the Floresville Cemetery Association package sale at Mrs. J W Oxford home was postponed to Saturday afternoon due to the bi district football championship game. The Wedding Ring Quilt will be given tonight at Arcadia Theatre and all ladies are invited to the sale at 3 o clock Saturday at Mrs Oxford's.

Mrs. W B Mitchell Buried In Floresville

Mrs. W B Mitchell 78 died in Santa Anna on December 5 1933 after a year of declining health. Funeral held December 7 at Floresville Methodist Church with Rev A A Carter officiating. Interment Floresville Cemetery. She left two children from first marriage and five from second, with several survivors and a long Methodist faith. The Chronicle Journal notes sympathy.

Floresville businesses close from 2 30 to 5 30 pm for the bi district football game between Floresville High and Uvalde High. The tribute honors the Fighting Tigers fine season. Shops reopen immediately after the game.
