Drastic Railroad Fare Reductions Announced for December 1

Southern Pacific Lines announces new travel fares effective today December 1. J T Monroe Passenger Traffic Manager states one way fares drop to two or three cents per mile with two cents valid in chair cars and coaches and higher rate valid for all equipment. Round trip charges set at two or two and a half cents per mile with ten day return when using two cent rate.

T L McNeil Burial in Floresville Wednesday Service

The body of T. L. McNeil 74 retired lumber merchant will be taken to Floresville for interment after funeral services at 11:30 Wednesday morning at the Wil bert Hanavan chapel led by Rev A H Clark. McNeil died at his daughter Mrs Gifford I Dicksons home on the Callaghan Road Monday evening surviving include a son Louis McNeil of Los Angeles two brothers George and Frank McNeil of Bandera and two sisters Mrs Minerva Clayton of Terrell and Mrs Barbara Maddox of Henderson. The remains arrived here Wednesday morning and interment was in Floresville cemetery beside his wife who died in 1909. Friends from a distance attended the burial.

Jury Commissioners Meet to Select Spring Term Jurors

Jury commissioners appointed by District Judge S. B. Carr convened Wednesday to choose petit and grand jurors for the spring term of the district court. The panel included A. E Oates of Floresville F T Magee of Pandora and Joe Schneider of Three Oaks.

Floresville High School’s football team defeated the Alamo Heights Mules of San Antonio 26 to 0 last Friday. The win keeps Floresville alive for the Class B championship and sets up a rematch with the Sidney Lanier Volts.

Hopkins to keynote South Texas Democrats Congressmen at Corpus Christi meet

State Senator W K Hopkins of Gonzales and Walter Tynan of San Antonio named as keynote and principal speaker at the South Texas Democrats convention opening at the Plaza Hotel in Corpus Christi Saturday at 9:00 am. Richard M Kleberg will give welcome, J Cullen Looney of Edinburg will respond, with Robert R Mullen Jr as temporary chairman. Hopkins, a young senator, has national recognition for oratory and campaigns for Roosevelt Garner. He was invited to Washington by Secretary Henry Wallace to join the Department of Agriculture staff. A Cobb Explains The New Government Cotton Plan

COLLEGE STATION Texas Nov 28 new cotton plan to be offered growers who sign government contracts for 1934 35 provides for total payments of 120000000 of which 90 millions are to be paid as land rentals and 30 millions in parity payments according to C A Cobb chief of the Cotton Section of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration He cautions the plan is tentative and may be modified later Land rentals are set at 3 cents per pound on retired cotton acres with varying per acre amounts based on historical yields Parity payments cover 40 percent of average five year production at one cent per pound and total about 80 million dollars to be distributed among contract signers Details to follow on page 8.

Floresville Tigers Win 24-B Title Over Lanier Voks

Floresville Fighting Tigers clinched the District 24-B championship by defeating Sidney Lanier Voks 7 0 on Thanksgiving Day. Captain B W Masters scored the lone touchdown on a fourth quarter drop kick after a 20 yard pass from Ben Lopez. Floresville outblocked and outplayed the Voks in the second half as Nemo Herrera's defense stalled Lanier repeatedly. Floresville meets the Uvalde P earsall winner on December 8 for the Bi District crown.

Floresville Cemetery Association to Meet and Sell Packages

The Floresville Cemetery Association holds its regular meeting Friday December 8 at 3 30 PM at the home of Mrs J W Oxford. All members are urged to attend and town ladies are invited. A package sale will be conducted during the meeting as the group seeks to dispose of all items.

Claude C Holcombe Dies At Home In Sunnyside

Claude C Holcombe age 56 11 9 died at the home of his brother George Holcombe in Sunnyside east of here after a brief illness He never married and was a farmer He is survived by four brothers George J P Rube and Lem Holcombe The Chronicle Journal extends sympathy to the family.

Victoria sheriff on trial for 1902 killing in Garcitas

Sheriff Robert S. Weisiger of Victoria County is being tried before District Judge S. B. Carr in Victoria for a killing from January 14, 1902. The case arose after a grand jury indictment sought by Weisiger to clear him of acts done in the line of duty when he was deputy sheriff. The victim was a Negro named Spot North who allegedly resisted arrest.

Poth Dramatic Club to Present The Ghost Chaser

The Local Talent Dramatic Club of Poth will present The Ghost Chaser a three act mystery play at the Poth high school auditorium Saturday evening Dec 2. Seven well known Poth people appear in the cast with Mr Jack Lane of the school faculty in a lead role. Admission 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for school children.
