Ninety eight miners deported from Colorado on a special train guarded by militiamen were dumped on the Kansas prairie near the state line and forced to return to Colorado after Sheriff Jack Brady and deputies halted them. Weather Bureau Report Highlights Mixed U.S. Crop Conditions
Washington reports the weekly crop summary for June 13 showing favorable heat in the central and western gulf but widespread insufficient heat east of the Rockies and on the North Pacific coast. Excess rain plagues Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Dakota and parts of the mid Atlantic and New England, with moisture shortages in the Ohio valley and upper Mississippi. Corn generally clean in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana though rains hinder cultivation in the middle Atlantic. Winter wheat improves, spring wheat and oats show strong progress, with oats extending into Kansas, Missouri and Tennessee.
