Record Wheat Yield at Jerome Idaho Sets Southern State Record
On H. S. Green’s ranch two miles east of Jerome Idaho a 2.17 acre plot yielded 219 bushels 30 pounds of Dicklow wheat threshed Thursday. The crop is considered a possible national record with witnesses confirming weighing and surveying by a civil engineer. Julius J. Jacobson federal crop reporter cites 117.2 bushels per acre as the largest U S record in 1918, making Jerome’s yield the second largest on record and the top since 1918. Davie of Buhl also reported 32 bushels 2 pounds of common alfalfa seed on one acre, with a 29 bushel 5 pound figure cited. United States Department of Agriculture bulletins digitize these records as national and world benchmarks.
