First paving laid on Filer Main Street for fair week

The first paving in Filer was laid on the east end of Main street yesterday afternoon. Work on the water main on the east block is nearing completion and the trench is being filled. Pipe laid in the deck between Yakins bark avenues as crews remove old mains. District forces have finished crushed rock road on Fair avenue ensuring good routes to the county fair grounds for fair week. Main street is a mass of construction but should be traffic ready for fair week.

Auto Caravan Nearing Coal

Seatt modern automobile caravan likely reaches Cody Wyoming after September 10 or 12 per W G Swendsen commissioner of reclamation. Caravan pace about 75 miles daily with no sickness or accidents since leaving Brooklyn. Idaho advertising by advance car operator Jess Padman of Mabe who promotes Brooklyn to Boise caravan with shows and talks each evening.

Grieve Injured In Car Crash Case Near Town

Report says We A Grieve, a member of the Herel high school district trustees, suffered a serious injury Monday forenoon when a kick back cracked the crank during car prep for town. The engine jammed, the crank sheared, and a major cut was suffered on the right side. the crank also broke from the impact.

Local Grain and Potato Prices Stabilize Amid Shipments

Wheat on the local market rose nickel with price quotes at $1.354 per bushel for number one and $1.20 for number two. Potatoes fell 19 cents to about 61.25 per hundred, affected by lower shipments to Chicago, the main consuming center. Five carloads bought Monday at $1.50 were shipped Tuesday as last week’s shipments remained heavy.

Frank Richman, a promoter from Syracuse, has returned after a seven month stay with his sister. He plans to stay at 242 Malm Avenue East. Body of Drowned Lad Found in High Line Near Cedar Draw

The body of Lambert Weddll, a year old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Waddll, was found in the High Line canal near Cedar Draw after washing downstream from Krull. Coroner P Groveman and Sheriff ER Sherman led the search, aided by Tein Falls Canal Co which stopped water flow. The lad was to be buried yesterday in Thiees Idaho.

Highway Construction Near Completion In Project Phase

Construction crews on the vizle highway finished concrete placement at the west end last week and moved equipment west toward the mixing plant located a quarter mile south of the pole line. Work will continue north toward the plant with completion expected in a week or two.

The Catholics of Buhl and Filer bid farewell to Rev Father George De Stoop pastor who has been relieved by Rt Rev Daniel M Gorman as his successor. Fruit Season Expands in Snake Canyon Orchards

Coal Property Endangered by Fire Saturday

A fire at Mutual Coal Company yards, likely from spontaneous combustion, sent smoke through the area as volunteers battled the smoldering blaze Saturday evening. A large crowd gathered near the Dianela street area as firemen worked to extinguish the flames. Hart Munyon and others aided, with one man overcome and incapacitated for the week. Kaipie, manager of the Mutual Coal Yards, coordinated efforts during the incident.

Body of Pvt Thomas F Goode Arrives Home in 1928

The body of Pvt. Thomas F Goode of Company F Second Engineers killed in action in France was returned to Filer, arriving by train with Pvt. TL Doboey of the Fifteenth Cavalry. A military funeral will be held Sunday at 2:30 PM at the Mennonite church, with burial at the local cemetery. Goode resided with his daughter near Lancaster.

Schools Reopen Next Tuesday September 6

School bells will ring to begin the new term as the district schools reopen next Tuesday September 6 marking the end of summer vacation. Over 200 pupils are expected at the Mural Biru school with many teachers newly assigned and significant building and equipment improvements completed to welcome the larger enrollment. Superintendent George B. Deems is overseeing the high school preparations while Rupert L Peck joins the grade schools replacing W Doyel who has resigned.
