Hundred Per Cent Club Holds Rousing Filer Meeting
A second monthly banquet of the Hundred Per Cent Club of Filer drew nearly one hundred local businessmen and ranchers to the Filer Cafe Tuesday evening. L. Otto and W. A. Shear chaired. G. Davis elected treasurer and Davis will chair next meeting with James Henry as a member. Guy H. Shearer outlined village plans, including highway funding on the West end, Main Street paving, and a municipal building idea. Speakers urged closer town farming relations, described advertising plans, and thanked officials for road work. Memorial Day business closures were announced for gifts at local shops.

Mrs N Edgar Phillips Dies After Cancer Battle
Mrs Maghette Phillips wife of N Edgar Phillips died Monday night at the county hospital after a yearlong illness from internal cancer operatives had been performed earlier. Funeral services were held from the Lome and interment in the LO OF cemetery under F E Drake direction. She was born September 2 1881 at York Nebraska and married September 12 1900 at Custer City. Survived by five children Lota 18 Juan 16 Frank 14 Aller 12 and Addint. siblings Justin Harwell Florence Maude Claude Merl. She came to this country with her husband in 1910 and helped in printing duties at the Filer Journal and related papers.

Simultaneously, Filer moves to extend Main Street with a half mile macadam road linking Highway 1 to the town, funded by a $2,500 county grant and a $4,000 total project cost, with easements secured from nearby landowners and plans for completion before the fair.

Legion Official Stabbed Amid Radical Threats in Filer
Arthur Poy state organiser for the American Legion in Filer was stabbed by a radical in an alley near the Hamark hotel. He was saved from a fatal blow but sustained a shoulder wound as he chased his assailant. Fay, previously of Burley and recently of Rome, had been campaigning for Legion membership and had received a threatening note. Citizens condemn the attack as a danger to local service men and pledge vigilance.
