Newly Elected Officials Now Govern Filer
Guy H. Shearer was chosen chairman of the village of Filer board at a recent meeting with unanimous support. The new board organized committees on Streets and Alleys, Finance, and other posts. Incumbents to serve temporarily were retained while actions on appointive offices were deferred. The old board met briefly, approved the clerk’s report, and adjourned. The new board discussed highway pipe work and considered using warrants or extending the special water fund balance for pipe projects. A Noles mayor sent a note about a meeting on intercity valuation adjustments for the Tahoe Power company. L. M. Smith, appointed to heating duty, left for Boise and reported back later.

Legion Drive Gets a Good Start Here
Seven new men joined Filer Post American Legion and five enrollment applications were filed at a Monday night rally at the town hall. Ex-service men attended in numbers with Twin Party representatives present. The group discussed organizing a Legion baseball team for Southern Italia and outlined plans for a summer season under Mr Jacoby of Wuhl. W D Gillis, post adjutant, reviewed nearly two years of local activity and urged nonmembers to join the national organization. Attendees from Twin Party included Herbert Lauterbeugh, Carl Delong, Sidney Graves and Dr F B Bavok. Tea, coffee and smokes were served, and interest in the Legion drive remained high.

Marshall LD Allen reports a suspect in a statutory crime against a girl last week is in custody after a morning arrest at the Courtney ranch on Mollinter road near the highline canal. The man is kept in county jail awaiting identification by the victim or transfer here for her to identify him. State examinations for seventh and eighth grades were held at Merra high school with about sixty pupils taking tests over two days.
