Young Athletes to Contend at County Grade School Meet

The county fairgrounds host the annual county grade school athletic meet on Saturday with 342 contestants anticipated across nine sections. Boys and girls compete in four age groups and multiple events starting at 10 AM, a noon picnic, and a 1 PM afternoon program with free admission.

Shearers Injured In Auto Accident At Bridge

Mr and Mrs Guy H Shearer sustained painful injuries Friday evening when their car’s steering failed near the county hospital crossing. The vehicle plunged into a stream pinning Mrs Shearer inside. Mr Shearer suffered a broken wrist and other injuries. Passersby finally assisted them as two horsemen and four vehicles passed without stopping.

Idaho Central to be Built Completion of railroad serettings

Idaho Central railroad construction from Wells Nevada to Rogerson was announced after a directors meeting in San Francisco. J L Stewart named president succeeding the late George L Davis. Thomas McDougal, vice president and new manager, is expected to arrive soon.

Octogenarian John Kalbfleisch Buried in Filer

Funeral services were held Sunday for John Kalbfleisch 88 at the Evangelical church. Born January 7 1844 in Hessen Germany he came to North America with his parents and lived in Kansas Oregon and finally Filer Idaho where he built a second substantial house on Yakima avenue. He married Henrietta Blea February 10 1863 and left ten children twenty grandchildren three great grandchildren and a faithful wife. He died April 27 after a long Christian life and is remembered as a respected citizen with a quiet disposition.

Flag Day Essay Contest Seeks Local Pupils

The Filer Hgwiness Woman's club sponsors a movement to foster flag respect and offers a $5 prize for essays on The American Flag written by pupils in sixth to eighth grades. Entries are due June 10 at the local and neighboring schools. The winner will be announced and prize awarded June 14 during a public meeting with a program and address. Evaluation weights: subject matter 75 percent, composition 15 percent, neatness 1 percent.

Road Repair and Construction Underway at Fair Grounds Road

Highway district foremen engage in repairing the fair grounds road linking to the state highway. The crushed rock roadway has been resurfaced and is in good condition. Twin Falls Sugar Plant Will Not Run in 1922

James Leffley district manager of Amalgamated Sugar says nine thousand acres of sugar beets are planted in the Filer territory but the Twin Falls factory will not run this season due to secured price declines. Beets from the area will be processed at Burley or Paul factories, and ranchers lament the temporary shutdown while no permanent halt is planned.

Mrs Pearson Dead Wife of W. E. Pearson Dies at County Hospital

Mrs Pearson wife of W E B Pearson died unexpectedly at the county hospital Friday afternoon after a short illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Mennonite Brethren church with Rev F R Koney presiding. Clarence High School Play at Gem Theatre Friday

The first public event for the graduating seniors will be Friday evening at the Gem theatre. Clarence, a modern four act comedy by Booth Tarkington, will be presented by the senior class with Thelma Shear directing and Gertrude Walter guiding the performance. The high school orchestra, led by Mrs. Maude Dywert, will provide music. Pupils Recognized in County Language and Math Contest

Ruby Martin of Fiter grade school won top honors in language and storytelling at Twin Falls county contest held at Twin Palle last Saturday. Laura Clark of Washington district tied for third in spelling and placed second in arithmetic. Walter Bertel of Marion finished third in geography. Edna Allen of Filer eighth grade also represented Pier but did not win. A fine medal will be awarded to each Saturday winner.

Idaho to loan $100000 to farmers before July

State public investment department pledges to make loans totaling 100000 to Idaho farmers by July 1. Alfred Hogensen, commissioneer, said funds will be distributed to about Ny farmers across the state. The department will carefully assess renewals and increases, prioritizing justified requests and avoiding additional outstanding loans.

E F Cedarholm Pioneer Citizen Dies Suddenl

The family and friends were shocked Sunday by the death of Edward F Cedarholm at Parkview hospital Kansas City after an operation for an organic trouble. Born July 6631 1861 in Knox county Illinois he was a pioneer of the area who helped found and develop the Cedarholm land and community. Burial was in the LO. C. FP. cemetery with services led by the Methodist church. He leaves Laura Longbrake his wife and two sons Ralph and Harold.
