New Menace to American Falls Irrigation Work

A Washington contract change extending concessions to the Northside Twin Falls project threatens reduced appropriations for the American Falls reservoir project. Congressman L P Crompton warns the interior secretary cannot alter the contract without congressional pushback and urges equal participation by all districts to preserve funding and adherence to the original agreement. American Falls directors replied they know of no contract changes and pledge to act to protect the project if changes threaten congressional support.

Railroad Permit Expected for Union Pacific to Begin Soon

Twin Falls observers expect an Interstate Commerce Commission certificate of convenience and necessity for the Rogerson-Wells railroad. Union Pacific likely to receive approval next week with construction to start soon after surveying progresses. Congressman Addison T. Smith notes the required questionnaire will be filed by Monday, with action by the commission within a day or two after. Crews seen leaving Twin Falls for Wells sparked local interest but were highway workers headed to begin a 12 mile Halleck to Deeth highway project awarded to W. M. Howps of Twin Falls.

Dairymen's Train From Minnesota Heads Here July 5

A touring dairy train from Minnesota arrives at Twin Falls July 5 at 1 20 pm and will stay three hours. It features dairy cattle, a speakers Pullman car for Wisconsin Minnesota and other states, plus Idaho and Union Pacific reps. Stop at Filer is possible with county meetings in Buhl at 1 pm and 7 30 pm. Notables include Kay Musser former local, and officials from Wisconsin and Idaho dairy groups. Governor C C Moore may join much of the tour.

Holstein Breeder Sells Blooded Bull to Burley

John Kaeser a Burley Holstein breeder from Filer Vale farm sold his herd sire Smithome Canary Alcartra to George Koehner of Burley. Koehner, seeking a bull to bead his herd, reportedly paid an undisclosed new sum. The two-year-old animal met Koehner's exact requirements and Koehner praised local Holstein breeders for the county’s herd quality.

Local lambs lead Omaha market with high car loads

A shipment of lambs from Levi Hostetler to Omaha topped the market at 16.25 per head, averaging 76 pounds, the best average there this year. Another car sold for 16 with similar weights. Early this week four cars were sent to Omaha, including one belonging to Dan Rupp and three to 5 G.

Swendson wraps up irrigation deals in East

Reclamation Commissioner Swendeen returns from Washington with final Interior Department contracts for the American Falls dam. Secretary Work agrees Congress will approve the Indian land purchase tied to the project at the next session. Favorable contracts drafted for settlers and Minidoka extension lands opened for settlement with veteran preference. Available funds of 1650 will back property purchases and Idaho Power payments.

Rev B J Bingle Accepts Pastorate

The Evangelical church will be opened Sunday July 1 as Rev B J Bingle of Fremont Ohio accepts the pastorate. He and his family arrive today and will occupy the parsonage. Morning and evening services will mark the opening for a congregation including local families on Yakima avenue south of Central.

Foxes to Start Fur Farm at Moseley Property

Max Moseley plans a fur farm in Hatley country after purchasing silver foxes from Rest Island Silver Fox Farm Lake City Minnesota for two dollars. Two more foxes may join, with two adults and spring pups. Furs fetch 400 to 2000 dollars, breeding sales primary, with new pens and dual fences planned for confinement and safety.

Potato Growers Form Statewide Marketing Unit at Mass Meeting

Potato growers representing about half of Idaho's industry met in Pocatello to organize the Potato Exchange. Charles G. Carlson was elected chair man, with James Pendlebury, L. H. Phillips, and Aaron Sapiro among officers. Local committees were named including J. P. Maraball for Twin Falls. Early and late growers were invited to join, to cover shipments of both crop timings.

Federal officer arrests D Litvin in auto theft case

David Litvin proprietor of the Central garage in Twin Falls was arrested by Deputy Sutherland on federal charges alleging involvement in selling cars stolen by J Menta of Salt Lake. Litvin pleaded not guilty and was released on bonds totaling 4,000 dollars. The probe tied purchases of stolen cars to Litvin and to Charles Shaft in Twin Falls. The Shaft car was recovered and identified as stolen from Mrs. K A Giving of Salt Lake City in October.
