Governor Moore proclaims Saturday June 14 1924 Flag Day and Monday June 16 Idaho Pioneer Day as legal state holidays. Observance urges display of The Star Spangled Banner and flags on public buildings businesses and homes to honor the flag and pioneer settlers.
Earl Peck of Buhl and his family narrowly escaped death Monday night when their car skidded on gravel west of Buhl, rolled into a ditch, trapping passengers. Infant son saved from drowning by quick action. Mrs. Peck sustained severe head and shoulder lacerations. others uninjured. Word from Mr. L. S. Otto said rescue efforts succeeded with minor injuries.
Mr and Mrs JW Hadesson of Pompus Kaus parents of Mra tt K Dillingham arrived for a short visit. Mr Hadetson a banker and livestock man with Kanese and Terns, is on a rare trip despite one of the worst days of the season. They plan private visits to show places in the county aided by their son-in-law who recently bought a new Chevrolet sedan.
Friday filings opened for the fall election. Cora W Crouse of Twin Falls seeks county treasurer. Emma L Warren, county treasurer since 1919, filed. Prosecuting attorney J W Taylor filed. S Claude Stewart seeks reelection as county assessor and M E Pinch seeks reelection as sheriff. Observers expect three complete tickets in the field.
Four Idaho school teachers, Mimes Ines Stephens Olive Short Bertha Berg and Cora Thompson, travel from Filer to the coast in a well equipped car. The party plans a detailed journey with motherly guidance and looks ahead to future generations hearing of their adventurous days. Mr and Mrs WD Gillis attended a dinner in Twin Falls hosted by Mr and Mrs Morris Batley for the Forty and Eight.
William Webb and two young daughters completed a 3000 mile auto trip from Jeffersonville Virginia to Kin Ford in ten days, averaging 300 miles daily. They were robbed of 175 dollars en route but recovered funds from another pocket and with help from relatives arrived recently. Webb previously lived in Kin Ford in 1907 and 1908.
Two women filed separate divorce suits on cruelty grounds in district court. Both petitioners seek custody of their young daughters. Mrs Alma Coppinger accuses Brian Coppinger of extreme cruelty and failure to provide. Mire Julia Ruth Aman cites Ora J Aman for cruelty. Temporary alimony set at 50 dollars monthly in each case.
John Johnson, filer district rancher, was held to answer after four preliminary examinations in district court on charges of assault and battery connected to a shovel attack by Tim over irrigation water. Neighbor John O Connell and witness J P Weinman testified for the prosecution. Johnson offered no defense and was represented by J W Porter. He was held to answer under a continuing bond of 1000 dollars.
The Twin Falls Kiwanis club invites all Kiwanis groups to a joint banquet at Rogerson hotel on Monday. All clubs will meet for fifteen minutes following the same program designed for national conventions. Secretary J M Markel spoke at luncheon about the county fair plans including $1200 worth of amusements and county cooperation being essential.
Gertrude Walter, member of the graduating class at the University of Idaho, is named among 42 honor students in the senior class for high scholastic achievement during the college career.
A petition with about 234 names in favor of Sunday pictures was filed with the Buhl city council, and a second petition opposing Sunday movies with roughly 200 names was also filed. Several speeches were made for and against opening theaters on Sunday, but the council adjourned without action on the proposal.
Reports in the Gooding and American Falls papers last week stated that the water supplies of the two towns had been found to be contaminated. At Gooding the state has condemned the water supply, and in American Falls the Riverside addition water supply is contaminated.
Joseph Moyland, charged by Twin Fade Probate Court with involuntary manslaughter, is accused of driving at excessive speed causing a car to overturn. Edwin Wegener, 18, died. other occupants were injured. Moyland, injured in the crash, was discharged from county hospital days earlier and is held for a preliminary hearing.
Henry C. Dwor whak of Duluth Minnesota becomes owner of the Hurley Bulletin after purchasing it from the 8,0 Parke estate. In recent weeks the Bros hone Journal was held by B. L. Plate for Glen Maxwell, formerly of Glens Ferry and late of Hole.
The day clears for action on the party platform in the evening session. Delegates labor to resolve planks on world court economy agriculture and taxation amid clashes over Coolidge loan proposals. Nomination prospects for Coolidge remain doubtful and running mate selections see varied support from states and veterans groups.
A Twin Falls County man, C. Sigging, long-time county official and district court clerk, is mentioned as an unavailable candidate for Idaho secretary of state on the Republican ticket. He has 35 years in Idaho, praised for county administration, and statewide acquaintance that could support a bid at the upcoming convention. His term as county official expires January 4, 1926, and supporters say he would handle law enforcement, licenses, and public welfare duties well if nominated.
Two Filer troops were admitted to the Snake River Council at a district meeting in Burley. Troop One, led by Ralph Love, joined under Scout Executive F. Douglas Hawsey of Twin Falls, after eight tenderfoots qualified. Troop Two, led by George N. Tucker, qualified seven and awaits full admission. Kiwanis and American Legion sponsors support the troops.
Water storage at Jackson Lake rose from 4 Friday to 465,870 Saturday. River flow into Jackson Lake benefits Twin Falls canal area with all other storage rights covered last month. Deliveries expected near 80 percent for the week as additional water may be stored in Lake Welcott amid recent precipitation.
The Bubl and Twin Falls camps of the Woodmen of the World held a joint picnic at the fairgrounds on Sunday, attracting about 400 attendees. A bountiful dinner followed with contributions of ice cream and lemonade, and the highlight was a ball game won by the Twin Falls team 11 to 6 amid races and contests.
Brigadier General Herbert M. Lord, head of the Federal Budget Bureau, states the annual cost of running the U S government for the fiscal year is about 3 298 000 000 dollars. He notes this sum equals roughly a quarter of the nation’s electric utility investment.
