W A Shear a local banker was the sole candidate in a Federal postmaster examination at Twin Falls on Saturday. Expected to be appointed by President Coolidge due to qualifications and endorsements, Shear would replace incumbent W P Shinn whose term ends February 6. He would remain tied to Farmers & Merchants Bank as stockholder director and vice president. The post is class three with a 2000 dollar salary and 900 dollar assistant allowance.

Rural high teams clash with Twin Falls Friday night
The rural high school basketball squads travel to Twin Falls for two key games on Friday evening. A large delegation from the county seat is expected to attend. In a recent home game Hollister beat Salmon River 14 to 2 while the Vandals defeated the Invaders 22 to 18. Coach Denman used ten players.

Ice harvest reaches 700 tons on Cedar Draw lake
B Fowler of the Peoples Market yesterday completed harvesting 700 tons of ice on Cedar Draw lake south of there. Fowler says this year's ice will be the best yet, free from dirt and of quickness varying from 14 to 18 inches.

Lincoln Loses Place On Canal Company Board

Utilities Board Asked to Order Crossing Signals
At the village of Filer monthly board meeting the trustees petitioned the state utilities commission to compel the railroad to install two crossing signals along its right of way near the village. One signal would be at the intersection of the railroad and Yakima Avenue and the other on the state highway west of the corporate limits. The complaint notes daily crossings by many residents and unprotected views raise risk to life and property. A map shows buildings along the tracks that block sight lines. The board also passed a resolution to end “howkey-bobbing” on village streets, instructing the marshal to enforce the measure. A rental agreement was signed with H. G. Munyon for village offices at $40 monthly, a $10 reduction. W. D. Gillis will pay $16 monthly for a portion of the building. Resolutions directed the light fund to cover deficiencies, transferring them to fire equipment and sprinkling district funds, and ordered a $4000 payment from the sicking fund for the original water department bonds.

Auto license fees split by Twin Falls assessor
Distribution of 72519.62 collected in Twin Falls county last year for motor vehicle licenses was completed Friday by the county auditor's office. Twenty five percent goes to the state and 12000 was turned into the county’s Interest and Bond Fund to pay highway and bridge indebtedness. The remainder totaling 641638 was distributed among the county highway districts in proportion to valuations, with amounts for Twin Falls, Filer, Murtaugh, and Rock Creek districts. The amount was not distributed at once but paid in installments. Next April no distribution will be made under the law.
