The official routing for the Sawtooth park highway entering the county from the south and running north through Robertson and Hollister was designated by W J Hall to continue north from Godwin station to intersect the Idaho Pacific state highway a mile west of Curry near Bauer corner. The Bauer corner to Godwin section will be resurfaced. The alternative east route via Knull would require more construction and was rejected.

Legion to Hold Essay Contest National event announced by Idaho adjutant
The American Legion national essay contest runs until June 15 with a topic Why Communism Is a Menace to Americanism. Eligible are youths 12 to 18. top prizes total 750, 500, and 250 dollars plus state medals and cash prizes. County winners advance to state, then national judging, with finals at national headquarters. Last year 600000 essays were submitted. Idaho winners cited.

Death of J F Blakeley Shocks Community
J P Blakeley died Monday at 62 after an anesthetic during surgery for an intestinal disorder at the county general hospital. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Masons in attendance. He owned an 80 acre ranch south of town and had property near Lava Hot Springs. Born December 16 1861 in Sidney Ohio he had remarried twice and left two stepchildren.

Village Board Adopts Sprinkling District Ordinance No 71

Six Cattle Reactors in County Tuberculin Test
Dr H B McMillan reports six cattle reactors from 842 tested in the county tuberculin survey. Two reactors traced to a recent shipment of five head. Testing by end tail injection and daily coverage noted. Aimed to test all cattle with state and federal support. Reactors are culled with partial owner reimbursement. This marks the county’s first such test and suggests low disease presence.

High School Closure Set for May 15 Exercises

A three mile hard surfaced road extension from the Duquesne corridor was finished in a week after owners along the route approved the project. The crushed rock surface required substantial time and money, but will benefit residents along the untapped stretch. The final mile was completed in twelve days.

Idaho Power Granted Preliminary Shake River Project Permit
A Washington dispatch says the Federal Power Commission issued a preliminary permit to Idaho Power for a Shake River project at Twit Falls. The plan calls for a dam at the head of the falls and a power plant with up to 10,000 home power capacity. The site is described as the only remaining location on Shake River and tied to the Minidoka project.

Friday and Saturday audiences praised the Filer Rural High School production of Daddy Long Legs directed by Mrs. B. Ki. Byrne. Magdalene Schaefer starred as Judy with Garls Robertson as the title role, supported by Glen Wilcox and a large cast. The high school orchestra, KEKR Byrne conductor, provided music and encores featured Eagle brothers and a Daddy Long Legs song. Low admission charges were reported.
