Ferdinand pioneer Joseph Ebert Sr dies at 74
Joseph Ebert Sr aged 74 of Ferdinand died at home Tuesday night after a brain hemorrhage while cutting grapes with his son-in-law Joseph Eversmann. Born on the family farm near Ferdinand he retired to town eleven years ago with his wife who died exactly one year earlier. Survived by sons Philip Joseph and John and daughters Mrs Eversmann Ferdinand and Mrs Fleck St Anthony. Interment followed a requiem Mass at St Ferdinand church.

It notes 617517 crop acres of 1272809 total, about 48 percent in crops, 49725 in legumes mainly clover with 3674 alfalfa. It reports yields below state averages for corn and wheat, limited rye and oats, and recommends limestone applications, increasing legumes, better corn and wheat varieties, higher phosphate use, alfalfa per cow, community limestone crushers, and rye cover crops to prevent erosion.

Giants Lose Mud Hens Win Doubleheader at Local Park
A Sunday doubleheader ended with the St Henry Indians upsetting Ferdinand’s Mud Hens 11 to 4. The Giants fell to Duff 5 to 4 amid many errors as players shuffled positions. Next Sunday the Giants travel to Birdseye to meet the town’s top team.
