Matt Schum Dies After River Accident Near Owensboro
Matt Schum son of Joe Schum of this city died Sunday evening after stepping from an excursion barge to a gasoline boat and being crushed under the barge near Rockport en route to Owensboro. Pilot Ben Henderson rescued him, but he died before reaching Owensboro. Schum, 40, a saloon keeper and prominent Owensboro resident, remained unmarried. funeral was held in St. Ferdinand cemetery. Relatives including John and Frank Schum, Mrs. Katie Gillis, Paul Schum, Theodore Gillia and Joe Frey attended.

In Huntingburg, 40 year old Louis Hoing Jacob J Radke died Wednesday afternoon by shooting himself. He seated himself in a chair before his wife, placing the shotgun under his chin and uttering a final remark about the neighbors before firing. The head and face were severely injured as brain matter coated the walls.
