A Paris private’s war letter describes an immense rat invasion on the Western Front. Rats swarm trenches, billets, and villages, even dining on emergency rations and chocolate. He jokes of two foes, Germans and rats, and laments limited means to thwart the vermin with war-hard conditions and improvised defenses.
In Wilmington, Mrs. Isaac Lightcap, 73, wealthy farm owner, wed 25 year old Isaac Lightcap after meeting when he was hired as farm overseer in June. The couple eloped to Townsend and were married by Rev. Warren at the Methodist parsonage, then returned to the farm.
A farmer named Beréen Jackson of Stringtown road in Evansville Indiana is linked to an unusual discovery described as an extra nest found in the area. Local residents reported the find and authorities began an inspection.
