Ferdinand area notes report a planned canning factory and early spring building at the town, with E J Kilian dentist visiting Feb 7. Local items cover rail sign damage, a barn theft reward, dry townships, tripoli deposits, and real estate moves on Main Street.

The new railroad nears completion with switches pending and rails spiked every other tie. Freight cars bought at St Louis are ready for inspection expected to arrive soon. The first freight cement for Olinger Brothers arrived in Ferdinand Wednesday morning carried slowly due to unfinished track. Mike Olinger marked the car with a cement for Olinger Brothers sign in Huntingburg. Regular service with a passenger coach expected by next week at this time.
A Louisville social page notes Miss Mary Schmitt hosting friends at 122 E Barbu Ave with a large guest list from Schmitt and Stelzer families. A surprise party honors Mrs Tobbe at 321 Preston Court with many attendees and well wishes for future birthdays. Local residents travel between Louisville Owensboro and North Vernon for visits and weddings at St Henry.
Olinger Brothers announce a new concrete business offering, stocking cement and plaster materials, lime, crushed stone, and sand at low prices. They unveil a concrete fence post machine and advertise durable, crack resistant blocks and chimneys with a full guarantee on all future work.

J. Goldbach, on his regular rounds to the city, rode from Mariah Hill last Saturday. The station road was nearly impassable and he nearly lost his way in a deep snow drift. The buggy stuck, horses had to be cut free, and Goldbach rode one horse to Ferdinand. He says it was his first and last horseback trip and laments for the horse if it suffered blisters.
The Ierdinand News reports a growing subscriber base in the last two weeks. New names include John Harm of Rome Ky and Leo Bumm of Fulda Ind, while renewals listed feature Joseph Hassfurther Chandler Ind Frank Emmett Aurora Ill and others from Ferdinand Evansville Jasper Huntingburg and surrounding areas.
Last Thursday night through Saturday Ferdinand experienced a blizzard like storm with heavy wind and falling snow. While Thursday started fair, a strong wind brought snowdrifts that emptied the streets and hindered sleigh rides. Local merchants advertise sewing machines and repairs at Pirie with guaranteed satisfaction.
John Widmer bought Mrs Osborns farm for 4000 dollars. The 152 acre property includes a new barn and house with timber land. Mail carrier Martin Schuetz faced snow drifts and mud on the way to Johnsburg P O, returning to St Meinrad by 10 am. Mrs Isidore Klueh died after receiving last rites. six children mourn her. Fulda reports a Grandview public sale attended by Louis and Joe Schaffer. Rosa and Mayme Waldbach visited Miss Frances Miller. Wm. Collignon held a shooting match amid heavy blizzard conditions with four to five foot drifts. John Reassler returned to Bristow from time with uncle Fred Ressler. Frank Jacobs bought a new engine for his saw mill and built a new shanty after a prior fire. Local talk questions pension schemes for teachers and farmers, debating tax impact and earnings.
Jasper Pitts and Hubert Quante of Ferdinand transacted business in Jasper on Wednesday. Edward Brinkmeyer, son in law of Charles Egg, appointed guard at Michigan City State Prison and left Friday. Herman Kluemper of Penrose Arkansas shipped home for burial with services at St Joseph cemetery at 7:30 AM. Edward Pittman, mother at Martinsville, involved in alleged theft of about 10 dollars from Mrs Anderson near town and fled toward Petersburg after sheriff notified by Pike County telegraph.
