Deaths at St. Anthony report two locals mourned

At St. Anthony on December 12 Mrs. Catherine Klem wife of ex county assessor John Klem died Thursday morning. Burial was at St Anthony cemetery Saturday at 8 30. Survived by children Mike Jacob Frank Anthony and Mary of the locality John of Louisville and Peter of Huntingburg May she rest in peace . Also Mrs Mary A Schlachter wife of Albert Schlachter died at her father Emil Sternbergs home Monday night. Survived by husband a baby girl Emil Sternberg Hubert Minnie Schlachter and others May she rest in peace.

Change of venue in Perry county murder case

Frank Genet, charged with murdering Jim James on September 15 near Leopold Perry county, was brought to Jasper Tuesday by Sheriff Hemphi to Sheriff Nordoff. Genet requested a venue change and the case was sent to this county for likely trial at the January 1 1923 term.

Ferdinand Building Society Drops $3 Premium on Loans

At the regular monthly meeting the Ferdinand Building and Savings Association directors decided to discontinue the payment of a $3 premium by borrowers. Henceforth any member can borrow money from the association without the premium.

Frank Schlachter of Adgeville transacted business in town Monday and made this office a friendly call. Leo Bumm spent Monday at Fulda on business. Wm. R. Sauer was at Evansville Wednesday. Ben Seufert was at Jasper last Saturday. Mrs. Bertha Fohl and daughter Mrs. Witt of Belleville Illinois are visiting Father Odile this week. They came Sunday. Anton Olinger of Rayne Louisiana is here for a few weeks visit with his father Ferdinand Olinger. He came Tuesday night. Ben E. Stetter of Anthony was in town Tuesday.

Minnie Helming Scalding Injury Report

Minnie Helming, daughter of Mr and Mrs William Helming, was severely scalded while carrying boiling water from a kettle at their home last Saturday. She slipped on yard steps, spilling about half the bucket on her right arm. Clothing adhered to flesh but she is said to be recovering nicely.

Nicholas Gonner editor of the Daily American Tribune of Dubuque Iowa and his daughter Anna with John P Schroeder died in an auto mobile accident near South Wayne Wisconsin on Saturday December 2. Also notices include local sale of farm machinery and a repair shop ad. Ben Sergesbetter a 72 year old Fulda carpenter died at his home. Interment at Fulda. People attended Ferdinand choir program at the Farmers short course in Huntingburg Tuesday night.

There Was No Room In The Inn Christmas Play

St Ferdinand’s pupils stage a Christmas play on December 24 with songs and drills. Tickets at Werner Wollenmann’s Store, 25 cents for reserved seats and 20 cents for others. The plot follows Miriam in a Bethlehem nativity vision where Mary and Joseph seek shelter, an angel guides Miriam, and her blind father is miraculously healed.

Recount Test Returns Narrow Margin for Cummins

In Jasper last Saturday a recount of ballots by a three member panel found Herman Cummins 294 and Oliver T. Garland 290, lowering Cummins’ original lead by one vote. The committee included Louis H. Katter and John S. Stuart for Republicans and Felix L. Schneider for Democrats, with Charles H. Bartley as clerk. Other notes mention a Jefferson township trustee, local people visiting kin, a gypsy camp with horses, and local mill improvements.
