Local trip yields fishing tale and camp ads
Wm Hackmann Henry Zink Herb Muellas and the editor journeyed to Teil City by Bill's Ford to fish at James bar spending Monday there. They caught about fifty pounds of fish and enjoyed the trip. Three Marish Hill boys left Johnsburg after a game to try the big city by train calling home to announce their absence. The paper offers training camp subscriptions for boys called to service.

Special Session on Liquor License Denied by Commissioners
County commissioners met in special session on Saturday August 11 to decide a liquor license. M A Sweeney opposed the license while Bomar Traylor supported it. After deliberation the board voted not to grant the license and Traylor appealed to the circuit court. They then inspected Briar field bridge and Hillbam rock road in Columbia township.
