After years of indecision Ferdinand's town and business community unite to push for a shared waterworks plant. Advocates argue water deems essential for fire protection street sprinkling garden preservation and attracting manufacturers while reducing insurance costs. The plan would be jointly funded by the town and citizens with business backing the trustees efforts.
The Pocket Publishers' League held its quarterly meeting on the Chautauqua grounds near Grandview last Saturday. Editors arrived Friday night and slept on the tent stage, disrupted by Charley Miller's stunts. A traction ride to Grandview showcased the Monitor office and town, with Alden Hearing and Sylvester Smith cooling off in the river. The meeting resumed under a large tree in Thurman park and adjourned with plans for the next gathering in Winslow on the 2nd Saturday.
November visits are planned upon invitation of Alden J. Hearing editor of the Winslow Dispatch, outlining a local newsroom engagement.
A surprise party was given for Mathilda Hass at her parents home near town last Sunday night. Guests included many relatives and friends who enjoyed games, music, cakes, and beer at ten o clock while wishing Mathilda a happy birthday.

Terre Haute residents and relatives visited in the area last week. Attendees included R. J. Beckmann Robert Ramsey Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Fleig Jos Schischter Mrs. Catherine Fischer and Miss Mary Rickelmann who attended the funeral of Lorena Ruxer at St Meinrad last Saturday. Visitors included Mr. and Mrs. John Horny of Clinton Mr and Mrs Albert Horny of Huntingburg and Mr and Mrs Victor Horny of Washington who stayed several days with relatives. They arrived in John's auto.
Mrs Woodrow Wilson wife of the President died at the White House in Washington last week and was buried in Rome Georgia on Tuesday beside her parents. Funeral services followed her wish for simplicity and only a few flowers were placed on the grave with the rest sent to Washington hospitals as her gift to the sick.
Norma Milburn daughter of Richard M. Milburn and Esther Wachner stenographer in H. M. Kean's office, both from Jasper Indiana, had appendicitis operations at Sal's sanitarium yesterday and recover nicely today. The pair are close friends, neighbors, both teachers and stenographers. Both were taken in Saturday night.
