Great Loss From Electrical Storm Hits Local Area
A Wednesday night electrical storm caused widespread damage across the region. Lightning struck barns belonging to Anton Heilers and Gerhard Hoffmann, damaged telephone lines near Mrs. Xavier Olinger, started a fire at Ed Daunhauers barn near Mariah Hill, flooded Tell City factories, gutted a shed of the Chair Makers Union and a dry house of Tell City Furniture Co, and damaged St Pauls Church steeple. A culvert at Cannelton washed away, and lowlands in Spencer County suffered crops losses while Rockport streets flooded and trees and billboards were torn down. Many utilities were out until restoration by Monday night.

Barn Destroyed by Fire Believed Unattributed Cause
Tony Schaefer’s barn burned Wednesday while he helped at a threshing machine a short distance away. Neighbors and Ferdinand fire units arrived too late to save the structure, which housed 350 bushels of oats 450 to 500 bushels of wheat 14 loads of hay and tools. Rockport Fair Promises Big Attendance August 24 27
The Rockport Fair runs August 24 to 27 with growing attendance expected. It offers parklike grounds, a fountain, ample water, sprinkling wagons, and many benches and lawn swings. The amphitheatre is weatherproof, races and a horse show will excite crowds, and floral and fruit exhibits are highlighted. Extra rail and boat services will operate daily, plus aerial acts, balloon ascends, and parachute leaps each day. Admission is 25 cents, children 10 cents.

Mrs Reichert of Evansville Dies of Cancer at 55
Mrs Mary Reichert of Evansville died at her home Sunday evening after a battle with cancer. She was 55 and a sister of Fred Bromm and Henry Bromm of this city. The remains were laid to rest in St Marys cemetery Wednesday morning.
