Community notices list public sales farm rents and property for sale near Ferdinand and nearby towns. Announcements include a big picnic, a dance crowd, a dentist visit, a house sale, and social events with local residents and businesses named.
At Tuesday night’s town board meeting the water works project was discussed with all members in favor. A civil engineer will visit soon to locate a reservoir site and estimate construction costs for needed water supply and fire protection.
The 46th annual county Institute will convene at Jasper starting September 1 1911. Prof. Charles Hoyt of Michigan State Normal will discuss History of Modern Education. Miss Cornelia MacMallen of New Jersey Normal School will lead Literature and explore the Nine Classics for eighth grade. Prof. Breese of Purdue will cover Practical Methods of Teaching Agriculture.
When finished Dr and Mrs E E Metzger will own a fine roomy residence with a neat appearance in town. Carpenters Charles Horny and Andy Hollinden work steadily to a high finish while Ben Seufert and Son provide skilled cement floors balusters and porch supports.
Miss Linzie Vaal and John Stratmann wed last Wednesday at 5 30 am in Mt Vernon Indiana officiated by Rev Father Sprigier. Attending from St Meinrad were Mr and Mrs Vaal Fetter Mrs Vaal Mrs Thomas Fetter Mr Henry Vaal and children Mrs Alois Vaal and children Mrs Peter May and children Herman Schmitt and Rose Behmitt.
The Sisters request the people of Ferdinand and others not to attend Divine Services in their chapel on Sundays due to crowding. Relatives of those to be invested will be admitted, especially on the day of Reception and Profession of the Sisters.
The St. Ferdinand's Branch 688 C. K. of A. adopts resolutions praising John A. Olinger as a devoted member and community neighbor. The notice expresses heartfelt sympathy to his family, prayer for his soul, and submission to God while announcing distribution to the branch records, Ferdinand's home paper, and the C. K. of A. Bulletin.
The Young Ladies urge donations for a September 3 picnic to benefit St Ferdinand's Catholic Church. They will collect at the School Hall each Thursday morning until 10 o clock and record givers' names for publication. All donations should arrive by August 24.
Friends surprised Captain Jenkin with a Sunday eve serenade after he retired and had to rise for the chorus to "My wife's gone to the country" causing a town wide echo. Mrs Henry Beckmann hosted a generous Sunday supper for her niece Ella Gerst of Louisville with a guest list of Beckmann sisters and other relatives.

A long list records individuals visiting or staying in town from Jasper, St. Anthony, Mariah Hill, Huntingburg, Tell City, and beyond. Names include Dr E F Metzger, Fr Dominick, Mrs A B Lovejoy, Miss Ladira Meyer, Geo Ofer, Adele John, and many others, with movements to Louisville Chicago St Louis and French Lick noted on various days.
The Ferdinand National Bank directors announce a special shareholders meeting to vote on placing the bank in voluntary liquidation. The meeting is set for August 26, 1911 at 8 o clock A M in the bank’s banking room. Directors Mathias Oliger Joseph A Sondermann Jus F Kitten Matt Olinger Jr certify the resolution.
Notice to Ferdinand citizens that Mathias Olinger, a 21 year old resident for 90 days, will apply to Dubois County Indiana officials for a one year license to sell spirituous liquors in a designated 23 by 87 foot room on Lot 129. The notice references local roads, building details, and compliance with state liquor laws.
