Russell Kills Whaley In Self Defense Near Fayetteville
Last Thursday about eight miles west of Fayetteville, G B Russell shot and instantly killed Wil Whaley. Whaley, armed with a gun and pistol, forced entry and aimed to kill Russell. Russell fired with a shotgun, killing Whaley above the heart. An inquest by W W Walker returned a verdict of justifiable homicide. Russell is described as a quiet man who avoided trouble. Whaley was reportedly drinking and difficult to manage. Both men were unmarried. the incident saddened friends of Yakote.

Governor-Elect Verrell Surprises Fayetteville On Visit
Governor-Elect Ron Joseph Verrell of Georgia surprised Fayetteville residents by arriving from Atlanta Tuesday afternoon and staying overnight. He planned to remain Wednesday but returned to the city due to pressing business. This marked his first Fayetteville visit, enjoyed by many friends who praised his cordial demeanor. In about 40 days he will be inaugurated as governor of the Empire State of the South.
