Local items note Mr. Howard Gilbert training overseas and several residents visiting kin or taking posts in Atlanta and France. Fayetteville supporters raise funds for the Red Cross Emergency Fund while ongoing war rhetoric stresses America’s stand for liberty and justice amid global conflict.
One fifth of the nitrate of soda will arrive next week and be shipped to Fayetteville. It must be paid for on arrival and should be seen about at once, W. N. D. Dixon, Co. Agt.

There is still time to insure next year's feed supply if steps are taken at once. In the South corn planted in June has a fair chance for a good crop and cowpeas may be planted in corn until July. Peas soybeans peanuts sorghum and millet may be planted on stubble land for feed. Grazing crops can fatten hogs while horses and mules can largely be fed from stock. No time to lose plant now.
Henry Scott Brooks and companions including Amos Turner Chappell's son and Albert Cooper wrecked B H Scott's Oakland 6 Sunday evening between Tyrone and Urburn. Driver Henry Lott—high speed likely caused the crash. All unhurt. Red Cross seeks donations as Brooks Chapter 74 reports two hundred dollars in Emergency Fund. Wheat harvest underway with thin stands. Miss Mattie Haisten and Mrs C Woods not improved. Rev J Ira Jones to preach at 11 p m Sunday at the local Methodist church.
The regular state teachers' examination will be held Friday and Saturday August 3 and 4. All seeking to teach or with expiring licenses must take this exam. no special exams will be held and failure to appear bars teaching by law. 1918 reading course details and publishers listed.
